Just as many accidents occur in the US from sleep deprived drivers as do from drunk drivers. If we persecute drunks, shouldnt we persecute people who dont have enough sleep as well? Both conditions (being tired or drunk) are preventable. Oh wait Im sorry, there is no Mother Against Tired Drivers-

Where is the statistics for your comparison?

And yes there is a law for that already. You can get nailed for wreckless driving, inattentive driving, because of those it is possible to be charged with vehicular homicide. But proving you were too tired or fell asleep is much much harder.

I think there should be a requirment that if you head doesn't clear the steering wheel you don't get to drive...also DWPYN...Driving While Picking Your Nose...that should be outlawed...I mean people think the car makes them invisible....

A woman here was fined for driving while putting on make-up.
Driving while talking on cell phones should be illegal too.

Ill try to find the cite Chest. I remember it was in one of my old CJ manuals. It was an estimate from the DOT. In the meantime, go to http://www-med.stanford.edu/ and run a search for drowsy driving. Theres a couple good articles-

What about eating? When you are drunk and driving you are trying to drive... but when you are eating and driving you are trying to eat!

(can't take credit for that.. someone said that on Comedy Central)

I strongly believe all our laws that restrict a person are wrong, i.e. drunk driving limit, speed limit, drug laws. I thi k we should hold a person accountable for all the consequenses of there actions regardless of what excuses they have, if you do something wrong you should HANG!!! I don't care if you were drunk, high or asleep if you hit someone you should be held to the same standards... sorry for the rant...
