I noticed alot of negativity towards someone on another thread because they admitted driving drunk last night, -come one guys, we have all done it, you don't want to do it, but if you drive to a party at 10:00 at night and get shitty, your going to have to leave the party sometime. Yes you can have a Designated driver, but how many of you honeslty have DD's when you go out and party on the weekends???

I party usually every weekend, an whether I go to a bar, my friends house, a party, or whatever, whoever drives is usually deteremined when we walk out to our cars to leave wherever we are. Nobody I know thinks about what kind of shape they will be in after all the alcohol.

driving drunk is something that has been admitted by half of my teachers, all my friends, my old probation officer, and me.
It seems that by the time my friedns and I leave the party they say to themselves and others that they are "ok" to drive. And usually they are not, however, there are different levels of driving drunk. I never let anyone drive who is absolutely plastered, meaning they are studdering, just puked, acting really stupid, making a scene, ect. In my opinion, these are the type of drunks that are killing themselves and others.

I have discovered that there is a way to avoid driving like a drunk, Maybe its just me, but when I get behind the wheel, and I know I am over the limit, I pay attention to what the fuck I am doing and do not act like a jackass. This is hard to do because I drive a 5.0 convertible, but I am definatley mature enough to have the presence of mind to drive normally. I have ridden with crazy drunks and it really pisses me off that they don't think about the consequenses, I have told them to "chill the fuck out", "slow down" ect. and usually after I tell them that they can easily go to jail or kill us, they come down out of their happy drunkenness and use their heads.

I mean, when you go to a bar, how do you think everyone gets home??? there might be 2 or 3 DD's in that whole bar, but most of the drunks that drive home, have to precense of mind to "drive normally". And yes this can be done, when you drive drunk, for some reason you get these urges to peel out, drive fast, run red lights, or whatever, but its not that hard to avoid this, you just have to be constantly reminding yorself of the consequenses. A DWI is serious shit, like a 2-$3000 fine, most drunks don't think about this when they are "joy ridding" but I do because I have seen it. I know about 6 or 7 people that have got DWI's and I have had 2 good friends die because they drove like fucking idiots. One decided to go from 0-80 on a residential street and did not see the curve in the road ahead because he was hauling ass. He slammend into and telephone pole and split his entire car in two pieces.

My point to this whole post is that hundreds of thousands of people drive drunk every weekend, but the ones who die and kill others are the ones who are absolutely plastered, or did not have the precense of mind to think of when consequenses when they were driving. This has worked for me, and I asked you fellow bro's, the next time you find yourself behind the wheel and beyond the limit, please use your head, and either not drive at all, or "DRIVE CAREFULLY" --ask yourself when your are contemplating running that red light, or peeling out, or hauling ass down a narrow road, ask "would I do this if I was sober?" of course your answer will be fuck no, It has been documented that alcohol "increases your ambitions" to do stupid, shit, it doesn't make you do stupid shit, you have the power, so drive smart.

my 2 cents

you can justify it all you want, but that doesn't make it right. i have never drove drunk, and i will never drive drunk in my life. i have never gotten drunk either, i don't see the appeal. i prefer to be in control of my actions rather than letting alcohol do the thinking for me. alcohol does not just lower inhibitions, it also lowers reaction time and makes you more clumsy in general. there was a dateline report done on this and even those that are not legally drunk had severely decreased reaction times.

you say nobody thinks about the shape they will be in after the party. well you know what? thats you guys fucking problem. you know what can happen in advance, you could almost call it premeditated. i personally wish vehicular homicide while under the influence would put the person away for life, in most cases without parol. sound harsh? tell that to the friends, family, and relatives of the thousands that die in drunk driving accidents every year.

Very well put...I know I have been in that situation more times then I should have...From my point of view it depends on the person involved...some people reguardless of what they are like sober do no have the maturity to handle a situation like that....Normally I like to drive fast and put myself in intense situations with driving or anything else that would be consider fast pace, but not when I know someone elses life is at risk, including passengers or someone else on the road...Given the fact that at this moment in time I am underage for drinking and due to some serious serious serious issues that will affect my life in a profound way I am drinking as much as I can. Not to mention that I haven't done any serious drinking in a long time and my urges to drink have returned today...

So I thank you for posting this and that it's the first message I have seen since I got on....Cause it's a big reminder to me why I don't drink and drive when I am in the state of mind that I am right now...Too simply put it the possible effects cause too much pain to my friends and my love ones...My faimly has lived threw enough death on the roads to it to have to worry about anymore deaths....

I have had too many friends and faimly memebers die from drinking and driving or as a result of it...it's a very serious situation and more of us then not are guilty of it...I only hope that this community and it's memebers will use it's best judgment given whatever situation they may be in...

you can't tell a cop that, if you drive like everyone else does, that shouldn't be a problem. If you notice your a passing other cars like a mother fucker at 3 in the morning, a cop will notice that too, then your fucked. You won't get pulled over for driving normally. Cops are looking for drunks, people swerving, speeding, ect.

how do you tell a cop that? i don't have exact figures but what, less than 1/20 drunk drivers actually get caught? unless they do a better job of cracking down, you won't even have to face a cop most of the time.

NATY I HAVE TO REALLY ARGUE THIS POINT. I AM A CAREER FIREFIGHTER WHERE I LIVE AND JUST THIS PAST WEEKEND SOME DRUNK ASS HOLE CRASHED INTO THE SIDE OF A HOUSE. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO REASON TO DRIVE WHILE YOU ARE DRUNK. IF YOU ARE AT A PARTY AND GET DRUNK, THEN HAVE TO LEAVE THE PARTY, DRIVE DOWN THE STREET AND GO TO SLEEP FOR A FEW HOURS. THIS WEEKENDS EPISODE IS A PRIME EXAMPLE. SOME ASS HOLE HAD A .20 BAL WHICH IS DOUBLE THE LEGAL INTOXICATED % WHICH IS .10. THIS DICK WENT RIGHT THROUGH A STOP SIGN AT AN INTERSECTION, UP SOMEONES DRIVEWAY AND WENT RIGHT THEOUGH THE WALL. HERES THE REAL SHITTY PART...THERE WAS A LADY SLEEPING ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WALL AND SHE HAD TO BE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. ALONG WITH THE INJURY, THE GUY HIT THE HOUSE SO HARD, IT MOVED THAT SECTION OF THE HOUSE OFF OF THE FOUNDATION AND THE HOUSE HAD TO BE CONDEMMED. SO NOW BECAUSE SOME ASS HOLE DECIDED TO DRIVE HOME DRUNK, SOME INNOCENT LADY IS IN THE HOSPITAL AND SHE HAS NO PLACE TO LIVE. BOTTOM LINE...DONT DRIVE DRUNK!!!!

I don't drive under the influence, never have, never will. I do drink and excessively at times, but when I am behind the wheel, it is my life, those of my passengers and those of other drivers in my hands.
Out of respect I don't drink and drive and expect the same when I am a passenger.
How would you feel if your wife/daughter/mother/sister/father whatever was killed by a drunk driver?

If it was someone I loved, they wouldnt live long enough to make it to court.

I agree with natymike on this one. Yes i have drove times drunk many times. If im completely shitfaced then I will have someone else drive my car. Its not that I want to drive drunk, but it happens. When im drunk i actually do the speed limit, i dont ride on someones ass, i stop at all stop signs, and i follow all the laws. When i am sober i speed and do all the crazy shit. I have cut back on drinking BIG time. When Ive gone to parties lately, i havent drank any alcohol. Its just getting to the point that I just dont enjoy feeling like shit anymore from drinking...plus its hard to compete in bb contests when you drink a case of natty on every weekend. good post mike

peace

I'm a Criminal Justice Major in one of my classes our teacing gave us a statistic that after 11:00 pm on weekends over 30 percent of people driving have been drinking or are intoxicated.

As for me I drink and I drive when I have been drinking. I have never ran a red light or went into another lane, or caused an accident. However before I go out I usually know how drunk I am going to get that night. If I plan to have a couple beers then I will drive, but if I plan on getting completely shit faced then I will not drive.

I dont think I could live with myself if I were to cause an accident that were to kill someone else that is why I wont drive if I am too drunk

What really pisses me off is that whenever you hear of an accident involving a drunk driver the drunk driver almost always comes out with out a scratch and the car he hit has a mom and kids in it and they are either seriously injured or dead.

Like underguy, I have cut back on drinking a lot, and it is great. I feel better all through the week, not just the next day. It took a while to get used to going to a bar and have fun with just one beer instead of six. YOu really realize what idiot drunks most of the other people are.
It's absolutely terrifying to drive home at 3:00 in the morning knowing that most of the other drivers are drunk...even the ones who drive "correctly". You can tell.
By the way, what kind of bodybuilders are you guys who say you get drunk?? Where is your self-discipline and dedication?

i drive when i have been drinking. i don't drive when i am smashed and can't walk in a straight line or slur my words. i know when i'm at a point at which i can't drive like a normal person. sometimes i have even driven in that state but i avoid that at all costs. i am extremely careful when i am driving and do not feel that i put anyone's life in danger. i have driven people home in my car and had them amazed at how well i drove all things considered. i do not condone it, but i do know that it's possible not to drive like a jackass when you've been drinking. some people are careless idiots and those are the ones you see wrecking and killing people. just my 2 cents.

Have drove while i was drunk 3 years ago, got caught am glad that i didn't kill an innocent family with my ignorance as for getting caught i believe it was the best thing that has happened to me! I still go out but i only drink water, usually i drive and i don't mind because i would rather see my bros get home safely, for me personally i had to decide what was more important to me, my health, career and future! I chose not to drink, not saying all should do what i done but am glad i made my decision! Life couldn't be better!

i guess you have to determine when you've had too much... there have been times i've had a few drinks, and then drink soda or redbull several hours afterwards, and i feel fine when it's time to go home.

however other times i'm very drunk, and i know i better not drive, so i just take a cab and pick up the car later.

People like YOU are the ones out there killing other people! I don't care how many drinks you had that night. One is too many to be behind the wheel of a 2500lb weapon!

You THINK you are driving cautiously, but your not. You THINK you can handle the alcohol, but you can't. You THINK car crashes only happen to people you don't know, but they don't.

In 1988, my girl friend was killed by one of you people who THOUGHT they were fine to drive, but they wasn't. Just ask Jodi, oh I forgot you can't do that now, shes dead!!!!!

I used to think i was in great shape but hell...after a month of not drinking I noticed a huge difference. I also eat other food that bb's arent supposed to eat. maybe im not as dedicated as i should be...but im working on it

I have done it, and I got popped for it. It was the dumbest thing I ever did, but I never would have learned my lesson, had I not gotten caught. It was over 2 years ago and I haven't driven intoxicated since.

Thank god I didn't get in an accident or hurt someone else when I got caught. Now when we go out, my group of friends and I make a rotation, and whoever's turn it is to drive stays sober, or we take a cab for special events (ie birthdays). Theres no need to drive drunk. Paying for a cab is better than paying your whole life emotionally knowing that you killed someones family member. Think of all the people you know that died as a result of it...I know alot of drunken assholes have almost hit me.

The other thing that bothers me now about this is the fact of when I am sober, I have to worry about the 30% of people on the road that AREN'T. Keep your eyes open for them...
