on a lighter note, i'm getting a real kick out of reading the offenders final meal requests.

"Twenty-four soft shell tacos, six enchiladas, six tostados, two whole onions, five jalapenos, two cheeseburgers, one chocolate shake, one quart of milk and one package of Marlboro cigarettes. (Prohibited by TDCJ policy)"

I'm generally pro-death penalty also. But I suggest a modification:

In cases of murder where guilt is proven with ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY, execution takes place in 30 days or fewer.

I don't mean "beyond a reasonable doubt" - I mean absolute certainty: videotape, DNA evidence, confession, ballistics etc. or combinations of the above.

In these cases, appeals would not be applicable. The most common appeal is for "incompetent legal representation" - which can be valid, but if there is absolute certainty to the defendant's guilt, then legal representation is irrelevant.

The reason it is more expensive to execute a prisoner than to incarcerate them for life is due to the legal costs associated with the appeals process.
