AL GORE
Gore used to be pro-life, until he decided it wasn't to his benefit politically.
08/28/00 - I now have copies of Al Gore's voting record on abortion, his letters to constituents, and other documents. (everything quoted below and more) I'm typing up a lost now of exactly what I have, if anyone wants copies. Please stop back in the next few days to see a complete list of Gore's abortion flip-flop record.

* In 1980, Gore wrote a letter to NATIONAL RIGHT TO LIFE, supporting the Hyde Amendment.

* On June 26, 1984, Representative Al Gore cast an extremely pro-life vote. While debating the Civil Rights Act of 1984, Representative Siljander proposed the following amendment.

"For the purposes of this act, the term 'person' shall include unborn children from the moment of conception."
After debate, Mr. Siljander demanded a recorded vote. The amendment was defeated 219 to 186. Among the recorded votes for the amendment was that of Al Gore. This amendment was in direct opposition to Roe v Wade, not just one against federal funding for abortions. In addition, he denied even casting that vote on Meet the Press on Feb. 21, 1988, and a Gore advisor stated to U.S. News and World Report on March 7, 1998, that: "Since there's a record of that vote, we only have one choice. In effect, what we have to do is deny, deny, deny."

* In Iowa and New Hampshire, questions at Gore's open meetings focused on health care and education. In Los Angeles, they ran the gamut from welfare reform to the environment, as well as a number of questions about Gore's commitment to individual rights, such as gay rights, rights of the disabled and civil rights. Abortion continued to be an issue for Gore, who was asked by reporters in Venice about comments he made during his 1976 congressional race suggesting that a woman's "freedom to live her own life" does not always outweigh the rights of a fetus.
Source: "Democrats Take Race to West Coast In Costly California, Key Goal Is 'Free Media'"
By William Booth and Lois Romano Washington Post Staff Writers
Friday, February 4, 2000; Page A06 (this is one document I do not have a copy of)

* During his tenure in the U.S. House (1977 to 1984) Gore voted pro-life 27 times and had a 84% pro-life voting record.

* In letters to a constituents, he wrote: "It is my deep personal conviction that abortion is wrong. I hope that some day we will see the current outrageously large number of abortions drop sharply." (Letters from Sept. 15, 1983, August 22, 1984, )

* In a May 26, 1987 letter to a constituent he wrote: "During my 11 years in congress, I have consistently opposed federal funding for abortions. In my opinion, it is wrong to spend federal funds for what is arguably taking of a human life. Let me assure you that I share your belief that innocent human life must be protected, and I am committed to furthering this goal."

Toogood Reports [Friday, October 20, 2000; 12:01 a.m. EST]
URL: http://ToogoodReports.com/

Maybe Al Gore was not a liar when he was younger, or even when he was in Congress. Maybe hanging around Bill Clinton for eight years has turned Al Gore into a liar. The Bible, after all, warns us that bad company spoils good character. Maybe Al Gore was not always a liar, but he sure is one now. And the dangerous thing is that Gores lies are worse than Clintons lies.

Bill Clinton lied about many, many things and a lot of Clintons lies had two common characteristics. They were about very personal things and they were usually denials of things he had been accused of doing. That is, Clintons lies were at least based in reality. He denied making sexual advances on Paula Jones. He denied having sexual encounters with Monica Lewinsky. He denied groping Kathleen Willey. He denied raping Juanita Broderick.

While Clintons lies were about personal things he had been accused of doing, the settings of these lies exposed him to serious consequences for his lies. He lied under oath during Paula Jones civil lawsuit against him. He lied to his Cabinet and the country. The consequences include a settlement of the Jones lawsuit, a finding of contempt and a $90,000 fine by a federal judge, impeachment by the House of Representatives. It may yet result in disbarment.

Al Gores lies are different. Many of them are about public, rather than private, things and many of them are claims he did, things he did not do or that things happened that did not happen.

He claimed he visited a Florida school that was so overcrowded lunch began at 9:30 in the morning. Not true.

He claimed his uncle was gassed in the Balkans during World War II. Not true. His uncle was in France.

He claimed he helped launch the Strategic Oil Reserve. Not true. It was established two years before he entered Congress.

He claimed his mother sang the "union label" song to him as a child. Not true. The song was not written until he was 27.

He claimed he created the Internet. Not true.

He claimed he supported a nuclear test ban treaty. Not true. He opposed it.

He claimed he was fired on while in Vietnam. Not true.

He claimed he co-sponsored the McCain-Feingold campaign regulation bill. Not true. Russ Feingold was not even elected to the Senate until the year Gore became Vice President.

He claimed he discovered Love Canal. Not true.

He claimed he wrote the laws that created Superfund and the Earned Income Tax Credit. Not true and not true.

He claimed he was the inspiration for Hubert Humphreys 1968 Democratic convention speech. Not true.

And on it goes. Lie after lie after lie. Lies about very public things such as congressional legislation, military service, and campaign events. Lies making up things that never happened, things that are just pulled out of thin air.

Clintons lies were mostly connected to, and somewhat constrained by, reality. Gores lies are often unconnected with, and completely unconstrained by, reality. And another curious difference is that while Clintons lies were in settings that exposed him to potentially serious consequences, Gores lies are in settings that potentially allow him to get away with his lies entirely. They seem trivial, almost stupid, and probably harmless. While Clinton actually swore an oath to tell the truth before he lied, Gore never did. The only thing holding him to the truth is general morality, the unspoken bond of trust that public officials and candidates for public office should have with the American people. Its not like he lied under oath, after all.

But heres why Gores lies are worse than Clintons lies. Gore lies about everything, private or public, denials or assertions, when its important and when its just plain silly to lie. He lies on the fly, not in the calculated, deliberate way that Clinton lied. Gore seems to be living a lie, not just telling lies. In this way, while Clinton lied a lot, Gore is truly a liar. And thats worse.

Ru Paul used to be a man too....who cares....no anti-abortion laws will ever make it through...and Gore is ant-abortion, but just like every politician is trying to feed the people what they want......bottome line...Bush is going senile...and although it might be humorous to see a confused old man play president (de ja vue?)...I'd rather have someone whose at least in control of his own functions control ours

*no anti-abortion laws will ever make it through...and Gore is ant-abortion*

if this alone is where you place your vote you have some serious issues

*every politician is trying to feed the people what they want*

al gore doesn't care about what you want. he wants POWER. don't you get it? once he is in office god knows what he will do. he cares more about women and elderly, why? because they give him power

*Bush is going senile*

do you have any proof? people can have speech problems and stutter and be brilliant. i would be willing to bet a large sum of $$$ that Bush is +-10 points IQ of Gore (wouldn't be a bit surprised if it was on the + side either)

well, there you go. obviously you just crave the right to fuck without consquence. if thats what you want to base your vote on, it is truly pathetic.

Same old Al Gore...saying one thing and doing another

Im really starting to hate this guy a lot

Also, he was a complete jerk at the last debate. Did any of you see how he pissed off Jim layer(sp)? And how he jumped up and said "my turn" when Bush was done talking? Acting like a 2 year old kid

Not to mention how many times he lied during the debate-but then again...what else is new

Great I hope the best man wins.....but if your gonna sit there and say politicians are not about power...then what are they about? Holding an office is a position of power.

I'm not disrepecting your opinion in anyway..I haven't once knocked dwon Bush, except to say I don't feel he's playing with a full deck of cards, but thats my opinion it's nothing personal towards you...please tell me where i disrespected you...and i will apologize.....

Shag, I hate to dissapoint you but first, bush will win, second anti-murder (abortion) will make it through.

You would cast your vote for a pathelogical liar? Wonder what lie (oops, I mean truth) he will spue out when he decides to send a couple hundred thousand troops to die in some pathetic waste land of no strategic value to us.

A person who will lie as competently as gore is to be feared. It shows a complete lack of respect for the public and the office to which he will swear an oath to uphold and defend the constitution of America against all enemies foreign and domestic. Wonder who he will consider the domestic enemy? Could it be anyone who speaks out against him, using their first amendment right? If he can lie about the shit he already has then he can lie about anything and all for personal goals.

Leadership is from the front, by example, He can neither be in front nor set the example. Do you really want to have children maybe even your own, beign taught to look up to a pathelogical liar?

I am sorry shags, but you gotta have a better reason than bush stutters and in your opinion is senile and therefore he is stupid so I'll vote for a man who will let me and others kill indescriminatley because of a few moments of pleasure.

Einstein was considered stupid by his teachers, Mel tillis can't speak worth a shit cause he stutters, yet he can sing unbelievably well, and is smart too.

Just because one cannot articulate every single word, sentence and syllable does not make one a bad leader.

Bush is young in comparison to other past presidents and candidates, he stands a better chance of showing some balls and sticking up for us and the US then gore's little shriveled dysfunctional nuts ever will.

Ok...these are my opinions..I respect yours but let me tell you what I feel about politics:
-all politicians lie...show me one who doesn't and I'll show you one with no career
-politics in the hands of big money....JFK wasn't killed by no guy name Lee

beside the fact I'm a democrate..and Gore;s campaign stand for more of what I want than Bush being a Republican.....I wish I could honesty say I felt the other parties would have a chance if I voted for some other part, but I don't....I thinks its either Dem or Rep...and I'd rather haver the wealthy democratic supporters influencing our government thatn the republican ones

So you would rather have your taxes increase exponentially because you are more succesfull than the person who refuses to get off their ass and work. You prefer sending to congress 30-67% of your income? Hmmmm, what about the fact that most democrats support warrantless searches, especially the current administration? Hmmmm How about the fact that during the first 90 years of the 1900's are troops mostly remained at home except for the big ones and durig the last 8 years, we have gotten our troops spread over 2/3 of the know world, and now were sending reservists to Israel? Hmmm, hope you don't have any brothers or you get drafted. I wonder if we have a riot somewhere in the country that if gore will declare martial law suspending the constitution and our rights. Maybe he will do it just because we have to many bank robberies or murders. Hmmmm, I like the idea of a wealthy democrat telling me how to spend my money, wash my clothes, how many kids to have when to fuck and how and whom, democrats are for taking the word choice out of the American peoples vocabulary.

Do politicians lie sure, just like every single one of us do, There is not a person alive that has not lied before.

Why are you a democrat? Were your parents democrats? All of your friends?...

shag: sorry for snaping at you earlier, as much as i disagree with your opinions you have been very civil.

i know these subjects are hard to talk about, and the hardest to change your feelings on. but the day you close your mind is the day a part of you die. you are such a hard wired democrat that it is hard for me to believe you didn't have some extremely influencial people in your life that led you to believe this way. don't believe for a second that i am a hardcore republican. i am simply arguing why Bush is better than Gore. Nader is my candidate of choice. i was brought up as a HARD CORE christian (not kidding) but through alot of research i realized the faults in my thinking and am now an atheist. i was brought up to be against all abortion, now i believe in early term abortion (unintelligent clump of cells, essentially), but am against late term abortion (blurs line of what is murder). i try to tolerate people of other beliefs, but close mindedness is something i have a VERY hard time tolerating.

I'm not closed minded...quite the opposite actually...I love to get peoples different views....many see things I never even thought of. In fact I love to debate. But its Friday sugar Plus I'm not debating with d whateverhis name after his post about bikinimom's pics...that really pissed me off. I show everyone here with respect untill the time when their actions change my mind. I'm not anti Bush, and just Pro republician. Don't have any republician friends really, my mom is the most influential person in my life, and she's not much into politics.

ive been over this about 10x, its really getting old. as soon as i think of a handle that can offend the most people possible, i'm changing it.

*my mom is the most influential person in my life, and she's not much into politics.*

too bad for her. whats more important than being in the know about those that control your life? once you get into it, it is quite entertaining actually.
