I am, didn't run this morning, I need to lift and run tonight, but my throat, my cough, and my head feels like its gonna explode....I'm never sick...ever...so what do you do?

Especially JohnnyO...you do alot of cardio..I need to do a 15 mile run sometime this week (was hoping for tommorow morning)...any suggestions? Thanks

Use 1 ounce of warm whiskey, really any kind but i prefer Gentleman Jack, tablespoon of Brown Sugar and a teaspoon of lemon, repeat every four hours, but remain covered with a blanket try to sweat it all out, before going to bed for the night, take two ounces of nyquil...

Garlic cloves. Trust me, eat one raw, no matter how it tastes, it will clean your sinuses and make you breath. I haven't been sick in 4 years, not even a cold. When I got sick, 4 years ago, I couldn't get an appointment for 7 days. when they gave me Penicillin, I was already cured from chamomile tea and garlic cloves.

achele...I love garlic...but I sweat it out...big time...so eat the cloves go on my run and damn I'll be knocking people over...feeling worse as the day goes on...so I think I'll go lift, go to the store get some whiskey and garlic, and get up in the morning and run I'm gonna be a coughing smelly drunk running along the road...oh great

I have to say I'm w/ Rotten on this one. When I get sick (feverish, sore throat, weakness, etc.) I've tried to train only to have it backfire. I try to take a few days off to recuperate. I take care of myself, take in lots of fluids, sleep, and take hot baths. I try not to over-do-it.

Hope you get back to feeling well really soon!!!

Shags I read this...

1. If the symptoms are above the neck exercise w/ less speed and intensity.

2.Below the neck(diarrhea, muscle aches) you should refrain from exercising. If you do exercise you may get dehydrated or overheated.

Shaggy, I was just trying to help out. I'd let you absorb some extra zinc from me with those lips, but we are quite a ways away from each other. Maybe I'll send you a sample in a cup and you can get some of the benefits that way.

In all honesty I hope you get feeling better. If you get really down like I did, your gonna lose your appetite so make sure you eat if you want to or not. I thank God for Hawaian Punch, it was about the only thing I kept down.

Its all neck, head, throat...but I say fuck it....all I can do when I'm sick is sit home watch ESPN and eat and sleep...I did that yesterday...I wanna lift and run...so thats what I'm a gonna do...(I hope it don't backfire)..its all mental baby Yeah...Its just weakness leaving my body!! ...plus I slacked this weekend and didn't do my long run and gettin pissed off!!!

If you really want to get better, you need to take time off from the gym and running to allow your body to heal. The more you continue to workout the more you weaken your immune system, because your body has to supply energy to sustain the activity. The result, you become overtrained or in your case even more overtrained, more susceptible to virus's and flu's. And a longer time recovering with increased muscle catabolism due to the weakened nature you have kept your self in. One week off will do you more good than drinking hot toddies and such. Liquor can actually worsen your recovery.

Take the week off

Get a big blanket and lay on the couch or bed and watch tv.

Find someone to spend time pampering you for the week

Drink a lot of water and you can use Nyquil at night to help you sleep
