I heard about this in the news a while back. Do you think Sherry Lynne White should have been discharged from the Navy for posing in Playboy?? http://www.playboy.com/magazine/chat/white2/framedindex.html

Is there anything in the rules or naval code or whatever that defines misconduct or whatever? What I am trying to ask as I'm stumbling around here is are there specific guidelines as to what defines conduct unbecoming an officer or soldier?...or is it a very broad definition subject to interpretation by the courts?

I'm guessing it's pretty broad. The Navy kicked her out because they thought it would give them a bad name basically but people didn't even know she was in the Navy until she got discharged. It wasn't like she wore her uniform or a sailor hat or anything. I think it's bogus.

I don't think they kicked her out strictly for that. I think they kicked her out for being too stupid for military service.

Did she really think nothing would happen?

I personally think it was a smart planned move....She got herself tons of exposure and was let go of a job that could not offer her what acting and modeling can...Not to mention she is Free to do what she wants when she wants without having to ask for Uncle Sams permission...She might not be the brightest woman alive but she was smart enough to get while the gettin was good....Good luck to her and her newly regained freedom

TxCollegeGuy,

Interesting theory. Well thought out brother.
I just don't think she thought it out so much - i think she was looking for the 50K or whatever they paid her......no other reason. But good point.

If her behaviour was indeed a breech of the code, then yes, I do agree that she was rightfully discharged.

As for the opinion's of Brotha Matt and Brotha TxGuy's theory I am in 100% agreement. Depending on whether she cashed in on a well-executed plan to manipulate the military to get some publicity that she would not have gained otherwise or if she is just a brain-dead simp who posed thinking that no member of the military "looks at the pictures", she is either WAY SMARTER than a WHOLE LOT of people or just has plain dumb luck.

TXCollegeGuy - really, really good point.

She's very attractive. Yes, she was smart. She lost her job she'd been doing for a long time; however, it looks as if she has a new career now.

She should have know that she guilty of Conduct unbecoming an officer. If that is what she was. The military is very specific about it's rules and she acted not in the best interest of the Navy. What she now has to deal with is an other than honorable or dishonorable discharge, which is essentially the kiss of death in the civilian world. No college money can't vote so forth and so on.

The military is very concerned about how its people act, they must always consider themselves as being an example to the rest of society. If they misbehave or do worse, that only puts a cloud of suspician over the military. They can't afford that since they operate with the civilian poupulations wishes.

So, I think she should be discharged, she new what she was doing, and new that she would get in trouble for it. Now she needs to live with her choices and not bitch about it.

oohrah bro..hehe

when i was in my "a" school in tennessee, we had a fellow Marine (female) and another marine who both participated in one of those "hot body" contests. the girl got a bit crazy and ended up flashing the crowd and wetting her tshirt etc. the guy went a bit wild as well.
needless to say on monday morning those 2 were the talk of the base....then they were the busy ones on base. hehe. they got some pretty good ass chewings as well as some extra duty.
the military takes its reputation seriously. not to say drunkeness or disorderly conduct hasnt happened in the past either. this is just a new issue that the military has to deal with when handling servicemembers. may be right, may be wrong, but in the end, if you are a servicemember you will remember "the needs of the military" is a common phrase. she should have known the line and evidently she crossed it. as chesty said before, now she has to deal with an less than favorable class of discharge, for just a one time shot in playboy....too bad. hope she has some type of skill to land her a job, because i doubt an employer will take a past issue of playboy as a resume. hehe.

well, i might though.
