I don't take anything, but need something for some leg pain when I'm running....never had a problem before and its not joint, doesn't feel like shin splints, but in that area...kinda feels like very deep bruising.

SO anyhow...I need to know what works the best...alieve, asprin, tylenol, ibruprophen, advil???

I had always taken Tylenol.....on a thread a week ago or so, someone said they used Ibuprophen and I bought myslef a bottle of that....seems to work better then tylenol...but, I've been slacking at the gym lately and the only pain I've been feeling, is not in my muscles.....well, then aagin, my heart is a muscle, but, no pain killer can get rid of that pain..

Try the advil and also look for glucosamine / Chondritan in a balm that you can rub into the trouble spot. It works.

If it is in the area of your shins you could very well have shin splints (how do you know you don't) which take an x-ray to determine whether or not you have. The best advise is 800mg motrin, (ibuprofen, same as advil and alieve) and ice both shins for 20 minutes before running and after. If the problem persists for more than a week see the doctor to make sure about shin splints.

Also, are you running on a hard surface? Dirt road, pavement, track? Try running on the beach or grass. What kind of running shoes do you have? And how much do they weigh?

Well this ? is something I have mulled over many years. I found out that motrin (ibuprofen) will over the long term dissolve your cartilege so don't stay on it for long.

A lot of these NSAID's can be dangerous over time, kidney problems, liver problems, stomach problems... So the answer to this ?
is for long term pain, a narcotic is the answer but also for not long. Narcotics don't kill stupidy does, addiction develops over time so be careful and if you must use
a narcotic don't do it for more than 2 weeks
if possible.

Laserdude

Well I ran this morning and the pain almost made me limping on my way home......I'm not big on taking pills painkillers or anitbiotics..... so being the idiot I am did not take any pain killers before the run. SO this morning I stoped at the drug store on the way to work and picked me up some Ibruprofin...just took 400mg...lets see if it works.

Chesty...usually do the heat thing...I'm much more agreeable to finiding a long run and getting into a hot tub verses taping ice packs on my legs for 20 mins....I hate that....but I might have to try it this weekend
