I just saw a really good deal for a generic brand of prozac on the net. i was thinking of getting a couple of boxes just to have for occassions when i feel like a bit of a lift.
can you do this or do you need to take it consistamtly for results?
if so, how many 20mg tabs would i take for a gooooooood mood?
my other question just is in interest ...there seems to be quite a few guys here on Prozac, zol etc., how hard is it for you americans to go and get a prescription and what tests do they do to see if your depressed? here in australia i dont know anyone on any anti-depressants, i remember one friend about 2 years ago after being on a 'meth' binge for a few months went to the doc with severe depression and got some more drugs (some type of happy pills) to counter the withdrawals..it just seems these drugs are getting way to overprescribed there in the states.what do you guys think?

you dont wanna mess with this stuff. i'm on paxil, a similar ssri...these drugs increase the amount of serotonin in your brain over a period of time, it took about a week for me to tell any difference, and some people it takes 2 or 3 weeks, so you'd have to take it a long time. if your not depressed, or your just having a bad day, its not going to make things better. i dont know about short term withdrawals, but withdrawal after taking it consistently is supposed to be no fun, you have to slowly taper off it. plus it has side effects...i cant tell you prozacs, but the side effects i get from paxil are dry mouth, sensitivity to light, very increased appetite, lethargy, & the urge to sleep all day, but its been worth it for me. and for anyone curious, i have been on paxil for several months longer than i have done my other "medicine" so the side effects must just be a coincidence.

Been on Paxil 5 years.
Side effects: muscle tremors, difficulty orgasming.
In the beginning was dry mouth and anxiety, but those went away.

ummm you have to take prozac for weeks before it *does* anything. However, if you dump a bunch of SSRI's in your system, your body will freak out. You will just feel like you are on anotnher planet for about a full week. No orgasms, body tremors, no concentration, etc. Prozac is NOT a recreational drug.

PS - ask dread lord good guy about it. LOL.
