Check out the new toys with which I will soon be playing  :AMD Thunderbird 1Ghz AND *drumroll* http://www.klipsch.com/promediav2/promedia.asp . ALl for the low low cost of $2000... it's funny, too. About two years ago, I got myself a PII-450mhz, full system with individually purchased parts - TOP OF THE LINE SYSTEM at that time... and it ended up costing me more than what I just ordered. Unbelieveable, eh? (Actually... it ended up costing my dad, not me... this time *I'M* actually paying for everything... yikes) Welp... I'll let you all know a) if 1ghz is worth the cost, and b) whether or not I am an idiot for spending $250 for computer speakers some time later this week when I get everything. fu***in A bro nice system. How did you work that out for 2000? Make sure you have a good cooling system I heard the 1GHZ processors haet up like mad and have to stay close to 32 degrees, or they shutdown. What do you need 250 speakers for though. I got it down to 2k because I'm trading in my existing PII-450 motherboard/ram/chip and it's gonna save me $200. Otherwise it would cost me 2.2k... hehe. Why do I need the Klipsch ProMedia speakers? I went to my friend's house and his Klipsch speakers are GODLY. I was on the phone with him and I told him to play Metallica's "One." He was playing it at like a quarter volume and when the bass kicked in, you would hear static all over the phone. I played Quake III Arena at his house and when Phobos shotgun'ed me I thought I was really dead cause the sound slammed me from all angles. Definately worth the money, and it'll prolly be better at my house since I'll have a nicer speaker setup. Oh, Twisted... I have a bose speaker system in my new Maxima... let's just say that comparing the bose speaker system to the Klipsch Promedia speakers is like comparing a gymrat to Ronnie Coleman. =) -Warik | ||

The difference between my AMD T-Bird 1Ghz processor and your Intel Pentium III XEON processor is roughly $200-$300 for almost the same performance. No thanks. Matt why would anyone use win 98 or 2000 Idiot Edition??? Win 2000 does support multiple processor and so does nt4sp7 which i'm running on my comp. Why would you use 98 or 2000ME??? Linux or 2000. Warik, about the bragging, i'm not the one who started the thread hoping people would be amazed at the little system you build. My system right now, which i build three years ago would make yours like like a commodore 64. E2, do you bitch at people who post their competition pics, post diet results, talk about their men/women, their great jobs, or how great life is going for them? Are they trying to "impress people?" Are they "boneheads?" No. It's called a "chat board" for a reason. They are "chatting" - so am I. In regards to my speakers, what I want is a good speaker system with good sound quality at a good price. That is what I got. I'm sorry if cracking the foundation of my house and bothering the neighbors isn't my thing. I guess that makes you a better person. Oh well! =( Oh yeah... I put XEON in big, bold, italicized letters in hopes that you would notice and begin spelling it correctly. I suppose my expectations were too high. If you are going to praise one processor over the other, at least learn how to spell the name of that processor. (THIS IS NOT A FLAME HEH HEH!) Of course there is a difference between you and someone who is posting a pic, if they're posting a pic for criticism or to see what other think of them, they're not posting to brag, they're posting to see where they stand. You are posting in an attempt to impress people, unfortunatly you've failed miserably. You're right it is spelled Xeon, congratulations!!! Perhaps noticing that made you feel like a big man??? A little joy in your otherwise dull day??? If you haven't realized by now why i'm bitching at you then perhaps i haven't been clear. Oh and Matt, i really don't understand why anyone would want to use an OS like 98 or 2000ME, it's really too bad people just tend to purchase the most popular OS instead of taking the time to learn which one would be the best for them. ------------------ | ||

Warik enjoy your new system it sounds like a good one. E2 bro...i think you may be missing the point that the great majority of PC users may not be as technically advanced as you seem to be. Most people basically just want to play a few games and run MS Office (or some other common apps) this is why they use Win 98 or 2000. Most people do not write code or set up networks etc. The xeon processor is designed for networking and servers. Here is a little quote from Tom's hardware guide that may be of interest: In the last 12 months we have learned that AMD's Athlon architecture is built for clock speed. In June AMD released the first Athlon with on-die second level cache for SocketA, better known under its code name 'Thunderbird'. After ramping up production AMD finally launched the latest 'Thunderbird' for 1.1 GHz clock speed. This new and powerful Athlon 1100 will actually ship now and ship in volume, which is a major difference to Intel's flaky Pentium III at 1.13 GHz. |
