Hey Steel. One time I was backing off the cage rack(power rack) with around 750lbs. I was doing 1/4 squats for triples after doing my heavy deep squats. I do this can get used to the feel of stepping off with the weight and the feel of pushing that kind of weight. I could not do a legal squat with this weight, but that was part of my routine to continue my rise in weight. Anyway this average size guy I would guess 5ft 10in about 180lbs comes to me and says. Man you are wasting you time you need to go all the way down. I got really pissed and said how much can you squat? He said if I do those half knee bends like you I can do more than that. Well I said why don't you do that once. He tightned up his little leater stap belt and could not even budge off the rack. I told him I can squat bench more than he squats and get the hell out of here. he left the area and never said another word to me for about 2 years until I quit going to that Club(not gym)..
It was funny as shit, because all the guys spotting me heard and saw the entire thing.

I know this has nothing to do with your story, but the quarter squat thing reminded me of this idiot.

Speaking of idiots in the gym - this is what I personally saw at the gym last night:

A group of three guys were doing chest. 4 sets of flat bench, 4 sets of inclines and 4 sets of flyes. They the porceeded to do 4 sets of flat DB press and 4 sets of cable-crossovers.

Don't people realize that, for the most part, db presses and benches are both midrange postions for the pecs??

Saw guys doing pulldowns and then Weight-assisted chins. Saw folks doing both seated rows and DB rows.

Pushdowns with a straight bar, angled bar, and single handle, all for sets of 4.

Seems like a lot of watsed effort to me.

20 sets for chest is pretty damn ridiculous.
i get a kick out of the guys bigger than me that squat 135 in the assisted rack with the hooks and shit on it. don't hurt yourself there, big guy.

I also saw a guy use wrist straps while doing lateral raises with 20 pound DB.
