Well I can say I now remember why I stay away from these places. We just had a three million dollar Y build not a half mile from my house. I'm the vice pres. of the neighborhood group and last night we held a meeting thier. We all got the tour and stuff and then I was asked to jion basically because of my position. All the neighbors have seen my basement and know that I don't need the place but wanted me to hang/help them along. This being the first inner city Y built in 25 years its a big deal.
So I did a survey the situation which is RRRuffff at best and tell them I can't do it. When asked why I tell them they don't have enough equipment. One bench, one incline bench, one squat rack so on and so on. Dumbells only up to 75 lbs. So they get the manager who is going to expand the weight room because of its popularity. Well we start talking and I'm telling him you need this you need that and the why and he tells me thats what the cybex stuff is for and I laugh. Didn't mean to but please. So I tell him they don't pack enough ass to them. He questions that and I tell him its not enough weight. So I get on the cybex bench machine and press the stack for reps. Well he shit and then I tell him flat out you need to get these people pushing more weight. We were in the weight room for more than an hour no one benched more than 150 and the most someone squated was 175. I was like these guys are to big to move such small amount and there was some guys in thier alot bigger than myself. Funny thing was my wife even asked if they would get dumbells over a hundred pounds. So to wrap it up the guy said al the equipoment was already ordered and it wasn't much in the way of free weights. He then asked me to be a personnel trainer thier and i told him I would think about it. I then gave him my card and told him to cancel the order and give me a call and we would do this thing right.
So well see either way I have my place but man that was funny shit --- oh yeah I was considering walking around and telling everyone to sign on to elite. Wouldn't that have made me an asshole - a whole new lot of newbies. HAHAAAAA don't worry I couldn't do it.

I know the feeling cleaner. I had to lobby hard to get 150 DB's for my Y and a second squat rack and cage.

I used to train at the Y in 8th grade and the summer before I entered high School. Benching 150lbs, I was one of the stronger chaps in there...

You would still be Thick.

Here's a good one.
I had to explain why a smith rack was cool and why he needed to get more. I don't think they knew what it was.
I watch a guy dump a couple plates. Scary shit with all them people around. He was doing tricep extention with all these 10 pound plates and couldn't handle it. One side went then the other. I think he might have pulled something when it happened. He didn't have a good look on his face.

I once saw an idiot benching in the Y, and his left arm was stronger than his right, so half way up, the plate fell off the right side and onto the floor, then the left side did the same and he fell off the bench. Luckily, he was'nt hurt. It can be quite humorous watching morons train...

If I had seen that I would have needed a stretcher to carry me out of the gym due to laughter.
