Right click on the task bar at the bottom of the screen. Left click on properties. When the window opens, click the tab that says "start menu programs", then click the button that says "clear". this should clear the drop down box in your browser.

If your talking about the porn address that you've been looking at :P and you want to clear them out, that's not going to do it.
Do the following:
Click on Start button,
select programs,
select windows explorer.
You will see yellow folders under your C: (C drive)
look for a folder that says windows,
click the little + sign,
find the folder that says Temperary Internet Files and click on it.
On the right side of the window, click on the first file to select it and release the mouse, then scroll down untill the last file. Hold down the shift key and click on the last file.
They all should turn blue.
Hit your delete key and answer yes to all the questions it asks you.
When you do this the files will look like they are there, but they are not.
Click on View and select refresh. They should be gone. Close Explorer.

This should work for any Browser.

The easiest way to do this is to click on Tools>internet options>Clear History

Does this erase everything on your C drive?

Chaos is right. I was just covering all browsers because it was not specified.

Capt,
No it will not. Just follow the instructions and you'll be fine. Let me know if you need help.

it deletes all the cached stuff on your hard drive, PLUS wipes out any cookies that are in there too (they ar4e automated functions, like an animation that follows your mouse pointer). this is extremely useful because some websites can actually access your cookie files while your online and use them for market research. B*stards!

clearing your history file is the only way to clear up that address bar. but 1 of my URL's is always there and it's the sort i'd like to remove ;P, anyone know how?

Some Web sites store information in a small text file, called a "cookie," on your hard disk.

Cookies contain information about you and your preferences. For example, if you inquire about a flight schedule at an airline's Web site, the site might create a cookie that contains your itinerary. Or it might only contain a record of which pages within the site you visited, to help the site customize the view for you the next time you visit.

Only the information that you provide, or the choices you make while visiting a Web site, can be stored in a cookie. For example, the site cannot determine your e-mail name unless you choose to type it. Allowing a Web site to create a cookie does not give that or any other site access to the rest of your computer, and only the site that created the cookie can read it.

Capt,
That will not delet any of your Word, Excel, AOLim or Yahoo stuff. I'm a computer systems administrator and do this not only to my PC, but others at work as well.
If you delete these files by clicking on:
tools while using your browser, it should ask you if you want to delete your cookies. I always do. You can also disable cookies.
If anyone needs help email me at
[email protected]

I work night shift starting at 11. So if your awake, shoot me an email.

captain,

if you do want to purge your system of all those cookies your can get a program to do it for you. norton antivirus has a good one i use from time to time. i heard somewhere that while the cookies programming can't be accessed they can tell what site it comes from, and thats not good if your a pornoholic (like me )

as for a 'CACHE', this is just a term for the area on your hard drive which stores all the webpages you have downloaded. When you go to a web page, you download pictures etc. these are stored in the temporary internet folder (your cache). when you go to that page again, instead of having to download it all again it just 'whips it out' from the cache. the cache is just a storage area for the internet. the rest of your thing are ok.
