I got my gas bill today and almost shit my pants...it was over 200 bucks and I keep my house at 68 degrees... Is it cheaper to set the temp lower (say to 62) while I'm at work..then back to 68 when i'm home?? Or just drop it to 66 and leave it there all the time??? ------------------     | ||

Phantom if you go below 68 degrees you are just going to burn more gas in heating your place back up. This is the price you pay for free market reforms. You can thank your local republican senator and congressman for deregulation.  If you have an alternate heat source such as a fire place use it. Also a space heater could help since the costs of electric heating now is less than gas. ------------------ | ||

I heat with propane and typically go through about 1500 gallons from November through March. Just purchased 437 gallons and my bill was $985!! This is only going to last for about 2 months. I would love to pay the natural gas prices instead. | ||

Yeah, I live in a fairly rural farming community. I built my house 2 years ago on about 13 acres next to the family farm. My house is about 3500 sq ft so that doesn't help much either. The price of propane has justified my ROI for a fireplace insert so I am going to pick one up tomorrow. | ||

Big-Truck..she is a very good friend of mine... :-) She will be a guest model for a while on Jenny Jones pretty soon... her pictures don't do her justice when you see here in real life... Im just going to throw the thermostat down to 65 degree's and bundle up... | ||

Yeah, those inserts are nice. I've got some damage to my chimney in the mortar, so I think when I have a little scratch, I'll put one of those in. Regular fireplaces are about 5 percent efficient, gas inserts run about 70 - 75 percent. My house is only about 1200 sq. so that would go a long way towards heating it. Have about a 1000 other things I need to do to the house first though... you know how it is... | ||

Buy an electronic thermostat. It's only about $40 for a good one and its easy to install. You can set it so the temp increases in the morning before you get out of bed, have it drop back down after you leave for work, have it increase before you get home, and have the temp decrease while you sleep. It will change the temp gradually. It's kept my utilities reasonable, and I haven't had to be uncomfortable in a cold house. I hope this helps. We were paying our utility bill($113 for a three bedroom, two story house) the other day, and this ladt we were talking to said that her bill was $650! From what she said, her house is almost the same as ours. She said her kids can't shut the doors and are always going in and out. If my bill was $650 cause of my kids can't shut the damn door, their asses would be getting jobs to pay for the bill. |
