I live in Ft.Worth. It is the city, with a small town atmosphere. You can find anything to do here.
I used to think it was huge before I moved here, but I found that Dallas is much larger. You are close enough though to Dallas, that if you feel you need more of the "city" atmosphere, it is just a hop skip and jump to get there.
Ft. Worth is growing quite rapidly now though. The traffic is getting worse, but it is still a great place to live.
An added bonus, the ladies are pretty and friendly to boot. Of course, I am a bit biased.

Love Austin, don't much care for the rest of the place -
physically too flat, and politically to conservative.
Even the Democrats are conservative.
Austin's the last bastion of liberals in Texas.
'Cause of the big college influence.
Great economy, lots of jobs for techies.
Housing prices are going thru the roof.
Lots of Lakes, swimming, bike trails, hiking.
We've even got a legal nude beach thanks to the '70's hippies influence.
It's next door to the gay beach of course.
Texas has 4 seasons. Fall, Spring, Summer, and Hotter 'n Hell.

i went to school in austin and I agree it's probably the best place in texas to live... but work and family stuff required the move to houston.

.. haven't been to austin in a while, but don't think they have anything like richs on a saturday night.

North Dallas here.

Life is good. Things are growing to fast here though. Everyone has moved here.

I'm actually living in a house on land that I used to hunt on.

Economy good/ Newbies bad

Yeah, the gay scene here is mostly young college students, and older couples, and lesbians.
Not a great place to be 30-60 and single looking for a gay male lover.
You wind up shagging a lot of bi-married guys. Lot's of them around.
What happens at Rich's on a Saturday nite?

You are right about the hotter n hell part. I didn't think it was ever going to cool off here. Add into that, starting school at the beginning of August with sixty fifth graders, no explanation needed.
But you know what, there is no other place that I would rather be.

I don't know about where you guys are at,
but it was hot as hell here in Big D and the next day it was winter!

I was getting tired of the heat, but damn!

You're right though, no place I'd rather be.

You're right, the clubs are smaller cause they're located in the old part of downtown where the buildings are smaller.
Actually, I rarely meet people at clubs, I've mostly met thru internet boards.
Austin's very wired. Everybody's online.

The economy here is good enough,
there's jobs plentiful here enough,
that anyone who speaks English can get better than minimum wage.
Ordering food in restraunts is a bitch.
Point to the menue and say numero uno.

Yes, the panhandlers are getting more agressive.
Desperate people are getting more desperate.
But crime overall is down.
Lately, it's easier to get a job than steal.
... the victims are packin' concealed handguns.

Houston is the place to be:
3rd largest city in the US
High quality of living - if you live in the right parts
Great center for technology and growth
Good place to get a business going
Good opps for jobs
Hot women...well, all of Texas has that. I honestly believe that there is something down here that makes the women much more attractive than other states/cities..
Reasonable cost of living.
Not too dirty and i haven't had any probs with people here since i stopped running around with idiots.
