My girlfriend and I just moved into a new area so I had to join a new gym. I liked my old one because the people were cool and most of the people that were serious about lifting had a pretty cool clique of information. WHich brings me to my new gym:

I get in there and One of those boy bands is playing on the radio. (Whatever happened to Metallica or Rage?) I look around and see a lot of women (Not anybody remotely decent looking) talking and laughing extraordinarily loud.

I get ready to do some benches and here comes this skinny guy who slaps 225 on the bar to warm up. Now I can bench more than that, but you have to warm up your ligaments and muscles right? This guy is wearing his shirt tucked into his sweatpants, has a stopwatch around his neck and his Otomix workout shoes on. He gets under the bench and lifts the bar off and brings it down half way and grunts very loud to bring the bar up...racks it and then struts around for awhile.

I was watching him only between sets but jeesh...How weird!

I wanted to do some dumbell inclines but there was this guy on the bench nearest to the weights I wanted to use reading the paper fully dressed with a ski cap on coat and gloves. I just used another bench, but I couldn't believe the people in this place.

The guy with the stopwatch went on to squats....put 4 plates on the bar....and squatted with it maybe 1/8th of the way down...grunted and then racked it and struted again.

I was working chest and bis today so I went over to the dumbell rack to finish up with some concentration curls. There were two guys standing there using the same weight...the weight I wanted to use of course. They set them down and I asked politely if I could use them for a set. He motioned to me like I was a pee-on of his to use it. I hate that like I hate somebody whistling me to come here...I am not a child...have some respect.

Was I just unusually moody or was I in a gym with a bunch of retards?

You have every right to be upset (or at least annoyed).

I have learned to do what I need to do even if I have to look like a jerk sometimes. Then I get the out of that gym as fast as I can.

I'm with 2thick on this one. Do what you have to do to get your work out in and get the fuck out. If I take more than 1 hour to do my routine, then someone is fucking going to suffer some serious protein fart bombs!

So you met Mr Muscle, huh? [jk MM] The gym I go to is a pain in the ass too, I just don't waste my time w/ any people that are like that. Good part is the squat rack is always open, but the benchs are always crowded.

Welcome to the land of suburban health clubs. Unless your in a hardcore gym, you are going to find that kind of crap wherever you go. Here's what works for me -- (1) headphones with rage or metallica cranked so loud that I can't possibly hear the grunts and groans of those trying to impress the women in spandex and full make-up casually strolling on the treadmill; (2) a hat pulled down so that there is no way anyone can possibly make eye contact with me; and (3) an attitude that makes me look as if I am constantly pissed off. I am not there to make friends, I don't care if I am seen as the biggest asshole on the face of the earth -- I just want to get my training done and I don't want anyone slowing me down or getting in my way. Try it -- works for me, especially in suburban hell as Wodin so affectionately refers to it.

Tman, I hope you are a bug guy because a small guy parading around pissed off is as funny as a guy in a ski jacket, and hat.

I am going to have to get a set of headphones. I can't stand anymore of that music. It sucks you know. I never had to put up with dumb shit like this when I was training at my old Gold's. We even used to bring in CD's at certain times when you wanted to listen to a little Godsmack or something. Thanks for the advice everybody.
