I'm not talking about Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th- I'm talking about really scary, fucked up, psychotic, mind game playing crazy shit

Preferably ones that are on DVD.

No Faces of Death stuff either- Documentaries would be cool, but I already know about faces of Death- anyone ever see "Gates of Hell"?

I remember seeing it when I was real young and being scared shitless.

I would suggest to you the 1979 english/italian film "Zombie". The movie is in english and starts in the hudson river in New York and then ends up on some island in the carribean. Lucio Fulci directed it. He also directed the "Gates Of Hell" you mentionned on your post

I was really impressed by the great gore this movie had to offer. Fulci is a genious. The scene where a zombie puts a wooden splinter into a girl's eye is well done, you see every bit of it... Great stuff

I bought it in VHS Widescreen, there is the original trailor amongst some other added stuff after the film. I don't think it's available in DVD.

Be shure to check out The Beyond, also, I didn't see it but I hear that it's Fulci's best movie

"Shallow Grave" is among my favorites. In it, 3 roommates find a lot of money. Then they start crossing and double crossing each other. It's from Scottland. Great movie.

"Body Double" with Melanie Griffith.

I love these kinds of movies, I just can't think of any others right now.

Definitely the movies that deal with the supernatural scare the shit right outta me...The Omen. Silence of the Lambs--I liked Predator (more of an action movie but I thought it was scary). Man, I can't think of any right now...

check out the EVENT HORIZON. It is a sci-fi horror movie only a couple of years old. The star is Lawrence Fishburne. It really makes you stop and think about heaven and hell.

I have long been a horror movie fanatic. Ever since I first snuck into The Exorcist at 10 years old in the movie theatre I've enjoyed them. I don't like the reality based ones...life is just too real to have to go home and watch the worst moments of people's lives. I like to watch them and see how scared I can get as well as scaring the pants off my wife. Just good fun, that's all.

Here's my list of favorites...more than a few of them are foreign, so I hope you don't mind watching dubbing...but they are actually better than most of the American scary movies.

Suspiria--real friggin scary. Made by Dario Argento (Italy). About a helpless little girl who goes off to some dance school way out in the middle of nowhere. The other dancers are getting killed one at a time in awful ways and no one there knows how in the world they'll ever get out.

House by the Cemetery---gory and scary as hell. Made by Lucio Fulci, who also made Zombie (really good too) and Gates of Hell. A stupid family moves into a house once lived in by a maniac doctor who has become undead and is killing anyone who comes down to the basement. Watch for the scene with the monster coming up the stairs and you can only see his yellow eyes glowing as he ascends the stairs.

Gates of Hell---worth honorable mention. Gory doesn't begin to describe this movie. As a trivia point, ask a friend what the goriest movie is in his opinion, then go rent Gates and watch how fast he changes his mind. If this movie doesn't scare and gross you into praying for salvation and protection, nothing will.

The Fog, The Thing---mentioned together because John Carpenter really did a great job scaring people with creepiness rather than shocks. Both movies have to deal with people being chased after by unkillable enemies and being so isolated in ungodly places of the world that they have no place to run away to. Memorable moments that are creepy as hell...The Thing--the blood test. The Fog---the old man's story at the beginning, the voices that come out of the radio when the driftwood drips onto it, and the explanation by the coroner that the man who drowned the night before had been under the water for at least 6 months.

The following movie is extremely hard to find...I had to get a movie supply house to help me find it. It was so scary that I just had to get it and watch it from time to time.
Stupid name, but ultra scary.
"Dread of Death" (has alternate titles that I cannot remember). It's a foreign film too. A few kids decide to go into a haunted house to see if it's haunted for real. If you find this movie, watch the part where the demons come out from under the bed... the girl knows they're under there and is just waiting for them to attack her.

Evil Dead---I think Sam Raimi did this one. A man goes up to a cabin in the middle of some mountains in order to find out how to resurrect a bunch of demons. Creepy.

I recommend:
1 Amercian Psycho (not a horror movie in horror movie genre standards, but on of the most disturbing flicks you'll ever see).

Dude, GOOD CALL on "When a Stranger Calls"! The first 30 minutes of that movie are probably the most intense of any horror flick I've seen!

Dude ARE YOU SERIOUS??? If you had nightmares for weeks after watching that movie, you are one big wusser!! The only reason I had nightmares was the thought that I might have to catch that stuipid ass flick a second time! It wasn't even SUPPOSED TO BE scarry or a horror movie in any way!! What the hell was so scarry to you? Was it Nick Cages' acting? If thats the case then I understand.

The Evil Dead and The Fog are both great.

There is another evil house movie sort of like Amityville, it stars James Brolin, can't think of the name, it ends with him finding the old lady in the rocking chair in the attic, running outside, jumping in the car and the chimney falls on him.

PLEASE!!!! If anyone can think of the title of this, please tell me. I saw it when I was about 4 years old and only saw the last half of it.

Re-Animator "No quote, but there is a head eating out the bitch!!!"

P.S. My favorite horror movies are "Christine" or "IT." Both were written by Stephen King. Christine is an awesome movie.

Now you are talking, I hate it when people say that Blair Witch Project was scary. A real horror film should be remorseless, gory and have occult elements.

as a rule, the more likely that something that is portrayed in a horror movie could really happen to you, the scarier it is.
there is no possibility that someone in a hockey mask will try to kill you in the woods.

watch a movie portraying real life rape before you go to prison or a frat party.
