Machines vs free weight

I was wondering what everyone's opinions are on Free Weights vs. Machines.

My partner does not attend the gym with me, and they do not offer personal training. (The gym is in a very small town).

I was wondering if it is safer to use the machines, but also have heard backlash and pros/cons of both.
I was just hoping to get a little more feedback!

Machines can limit the range of motion as compared to free weights. It is good to use both if you can, however doing just machines is still better than not doing resistance training.

It's been debated ever since the first machine was put in a gym.

Yeah i would go with free weights all day. Just learn lifting techniques with light weight and work your way up.
