jumping up and down!

I tend to listen to my body. I do a started set of stretches, but sometimes I 'feel' like I need to do something, most of the time I just do it and see how it feels.

My new favorite exercise is hopping up as high as I can switching legs quickly (sort of like sprinting in place, but bringing the thigh almost up to my chest)

I do about 15 of these then walk aound a bit then do a few more.

It feels great and seems to loosen my back, but I'm wondering:

1. is this a real exercise with a name?
2. is it bad for my knees?

Thanks!

Susan

basketball players do that type of exercise to strengthen some leg muscle group ... I suppose it's ok ...

they even wear a special shoes for it to make them jump higher

As long as your feet come down lightly, like they don't slam on the ground, jumping's fine for your knees. an exercise i find that really gets my heart going is jump shot kind of jumps--jumping high as i can with both feet and lifting the arms up, and returning to a bent-knee position. gets the fast-twitch muscle fibers working more, like sprinting
