A Female Q about my wife

Hello ladies;

My wife has a problem and I wonder if any of you lovely ladies have any ideas.

Her problem has 2 syptoms :

1) she has absolutely no sex drive (even though her man is a hunka hunka burning love :D ) Our marriage is great, lots of love and stuff, she is in great shape fitness wise, her diet is also very good.

2) her periods are not normal. She bleeds very very heavy (and I mean heavy). Normally this should last about a week right - well for the month of March it lasted 31 days (yes 31 days). Not heavy heavy for the whole month but enough that she needed to wear a pad.:bawling:

Any ideas? Please don't say "see a doc". She is seeing doctors and they are not helping. They have tried several drugs to no avail and now they have her on birth control just to help control her periods (again to no avail but it did wonders for her skin). I think it has something to do with hormones but what hormones and what should she have the docs testing for. She is 42 years old.

Thanks for listening!

(ps - she does not want a hystorectomy (sp?) even though it has been suggested by one doc. They also said burn the lining of her ??? but now the newest doc says the lining is fine)

Have the docs checked her hormone levels? As in follicle stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone. Also her test levels may need to be checked. She may (and I stress may) be experiencing peri-menopause. You could see if you can find a doc that is more specialized in older female health.

Also, why was a hysterectomy suggested? In hysterectomy they only take out the uterus. If they include oophorectomy (sp?) they take out one or both ovaries also. Are you planning on having children?

Maybe TheBabyDoc could shed some light here.

Has she been checked for endometriosis? Is the lack of interest in sex because sex is painful/uncomfortable for her?

Thank you so much ladies.

Peri-meno --> we thought this but the docs say no. How ever they detect this the tests say no.

Hysterectomy - not sure why they say this but no we do not want any more children. We already have children and don't plan on any more (BTW - her tubes are tied)

Endo - not sure if she has been tested for this or not. No the sex is not painful or uncomfortable. In fact when we do make love she enjoys it very much, its just that she isn't interested in sex very much.

As for the other things you mentioned, I will print the page and have her talk to her general doc again. I do believe it is test. or estrogen related (she just read a magazine that described her to a T and mentioned these two hormones as well as some other one - progesterone or something).

Thanks again ladies.

I have been having these sorts of problems myself and this is a VERY good site:

http://www.hystersisters.com/

So many doctors are uninformed about how to properly diagnose these problems it's unreal. If you aren't getting anywhere with yours, get a second opinion!!! Heavy bleeding can be merely annoying (due to fibroids or some such) or in some cases it can even be cancer :( .

This site has a lot of good links for info, and plenty of women who have the same sorts of problems + good advice. Send your wife over there ...

I showed her the info and she called her doc this morning and has an appointment for Monday. I sure hope she gets some answers this time.

Thanks to all!

sorry, no one PM'd me

What did they find?

First things first-
she needs an endometrial biopsy ASAP! (rule out cancer)

How long has she had this problem?

Bleeding is probably from uterine polyps. Hysteroscopy and ablation (burning lining) after removing polyps probably the best bet for bleeding problem.
Could also be fibroids as well as perimenopause.

Testosterone, viagra offer some possibilities

They still haven't found anything yet. Another set of tests coming up. First set showed all levels of hormones were normal (but the doc wasn't exactly sure what normal was so he ordered a second set of tests)

endometrial biopsy etc. - all these tests have been done and the conclusion is that there is nothing physically wrong with her. Everything is fine and in working order. No fibroids and the lining is fine (they first suggested the burning but now they say no).

The best news is that the birth control pills are now starting to work and for the month of April and now May, her periods were normal. My understanding is that these pills are mostly progesterone (sp?). Only problem is that the doc wants to stop them soon because of the risk of breast cancer.

Thanks again for the responses.
