My girlfriend and I train for power lifting, and cycle through various programs. They l tend towards many sets of high weight with low reps since hypertrophy isn't the goal.
 
I actually train a few different things into my workouts. I aim to add a body weight exercise. Compound lift in the 4-6 rep range. And endurance work for 50-100 reps. To end it I like to throw in something plyometric and explosive. That combination has done a lot of good for me personally.
