an unusual pain during squatting.....

this ISNT in my spinal errectors (i think) basically when i go down in the squat movement and back up i feel a pain in the area of bone where the human tail would be if we still had one (i.e literally that bit of bone on the tip of my buttcrack closest to the spine)...i believe its called the coccix or someting. anyhow it feels really bad when i gop down. i noticed before on my last rep of doing ATF squats 2 weks ago, and stopped. i noticed this again tyhis week as sson as i went heavy.

i can sqaut though the pain but dont want to incase i injure something. if i keep my back relatively straight and by head very high i hardly feel anything, but on my gym it has a chart saying proper squat technique and it says i should be rotationgh my chest towards my legs (i.e. leaning foward when i squat) its when i do this i feel the pain) any ideas on how i can work through this?

unfortunately these are smith squats as i cant find a partner, my gym has no squat rack and people are hardly there so if i was in trouble no one would find me. found nada in the archives about but opain relating top squatsany help would be much appreciated :)

i dont understand the technique your chart recommends but your back has to remain flat the whole time. there should be no rounding of your trunk whatsoever otherwise the it puts your back in a bad position and open to injury. when doing atf squats it gets harder for your to maintain this if you are inflexible or trying to get yourself into that position. i dont go that low, i keep parallel or a bit below.

thanx for the reply but just a quick questions...

when you say keep the back flat do you mean as vertical as possible. the chart says keep your back "tight" but says move your chest to your knees. i had a feeling it was the ATF squats so i've quit doing them for now

thnx

flat meaning dont round forward and dont excessively arch. staying vertical is not possible due to the biomechanics of the movement.

your chest may travel towards your knees but dont make that the emphasis of the movement. you should really get with someone who can train you how to squat. its not as simple as squatting down and standing up.

cheers! (and ive yet to find someone who squats at my gym on a regular basis!)

sorry to hear that bro. the least you can do is find some good articles or books about basic squatting. those should have illustrations to help you see the movement and how your body position should be.

yeah i know what you mean. tons of bodybuilders, weight trainers and fitness afficianados in the world but try to find one that squats on a regular basis! hehe. its like looking for a virgin at a porn convention.

ill see what i can dig up to help you out. peace

jeez...thanks a lot! (meant in a good way :) )

ive tried a few animated demo sites, but the animations dont look very human! ill keep trying!
