Excerpt: I've seen this trend now in the gym especially with the younger more athletic dudes of doing leg workouts like calves, deads, and squats without shoes, just in their socks. i saw some old school videos of guys like Arnold where they wear flat shoes so it doesn't interfere with their workouts. is there any merit to do?

Re: training without shoes?
Arguably a slightly elevated heel is used in squat shoes

Re: training without shoes?
although training barefoot is ideal.
not realistic to train that way for 2 reasons
1. unsanitary and no gym would allow that. expect to get kicked out
2. what if the weight drops on your foot?
it is best to get good quality shoes to train in. 1 pair for weight training and 1 pair for running
i much prefer to run barefoot outside on grass, but even that is dangerous. what happens if i step on a needle or thorn?

Re: training without shoes?
While it may be slightly better, to me it isn't worth the risk of busting a toe or foot.
