Training for a power lifting meet - question

Time off prior to the meet - what sort of schedule would you follow.

A friend and I are competing in a bench & deadlift meet on Saturday December 6. Figure we will train bench next Tuesday, deads Wednesday. I was planning on going in on Sunday (11/30) to do some triples with around 75-80% - just to work on form and stay in the groove. My buddy recommends staying out of the gym for 5 days - not lifting until the meet.

Anyone with input or past experience? Appreciate the input.
 
I go by feel. Definitely one week off, sometimes more. Sometimes two weeks out I will do speed only, and no max. I just base it on how I'm feeling, how well I'm recovering, etc....
