Shoulder impingement and wide grip lat pulldowns

If I suffer from shoulder impingement syndrome, would it be better to just use underhand or close grip lat pulldowns instead of wide grip? Can you still widen your lats without doing wide grip lat pulldowns?

You are going to have to experiment with different grip spacings as well as the underhand grip too see if it has a postive impact on your shoulder condition. If a particular grip bothers your shoulder, don`t do it and find a grip, whether underhand, overhand, close grip, medium grip that feels comfortable while doing the pull down movement.

And most definetly you can still widen your lats without doing wide grip pull downs. Try doing some bent over rows, T-bar rows and the seated lat pulley machine if you have access to one. Thay are all great lat builders (width and thickness). Don`t feel that wide grip pull downs are the only way to go....you have many options......exercise them all and stick with the ones that feel good for you and in time and with dedication on your part you will surely build up your lats.
