Hi, I joined the forum a couple days ago. I am a weight trainer
who has been following a modified MAX-OT for the past six
months. I want to make the jump to power lifting and that
brings me to y'all. Do not know much about the sport. Hell,
I did not even know what a bench shirt was until a couple of
months ago.

I am 45 years of age. Still making gains. My full parallel squat
is at 505 with wraps and belt. My bench is 305 raw touch and
go. The dead-lift is where I seem to do best at 615 with a belt.

I want to make gains and I know I have a lot in me but I do
not know how to train correctly, based on what I read in Dave
Tate articles on bench and squat, my form stinks. I need help.
Hopefully, you guys will be able to help me make the jump to
power lifting.

Thanks,

Geno :)

hey Geno - welcome. I see you have a real good start already - and this is a good place to get even better.

also good to see you've done some reading already. I recommend searching back through this board if you haven't already (set the drop-down menu at the bottom to "from the beginning") -- it takes a while, but there have been TONS of articles linked to, and a lot of good discussions on getting started and transitioning into PL.

good luck!

Whazup...

Welcome Geno_O! I'm interested in hearing what training techniques you use. A lot of the members of this forum train Westside so if your interested in the Westside style then you've definitely come to the right place. Whatever method you use, all of the forum members are extremely positive and truely want to help each other. Let us know how you are currently training and if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. Train hard!

Prometheus, brianmincher, thanks for the welcome and info.

Screwball, I have been using the MAX-OT training methods.
Before that, my training was very haphazard. I started lifting
years ago for track and field - threw the javelin. Have gained
some strength in the past six months. Now I want to take a
stab at power lifting. So, to answer your question, I am here
to learn how to power lift. I am going to replace MAX-oT with
some form of power training.

I have been reading a bit about Westside methods. I find it
very confusing. However, it appears that there are a bunch
of successful WS lifters. Is this the way to go?

Whats up Geno? Westside is confusing. But i think the best way to learn it is to understand and know all of the exercises. Start throwing them in your routine first. Then it will all come easy when you ask questions and learn as you go cause then you will knwo what people are referring too. Good luck and be patient. You will have it mastered very soon.

welcome aboard bro. as of now u have a great start by postin on here and readin some articles. soon you'll be aching to enter ur first PL competition then after that you'll just wanna keep on competing(i speak from personal experience).

Cubanito17, Rocket and TheFng, thanks for the welcome.

Powerlifterjay, I tried a couple of the exercises yesterday -
box squat and good mornings. It is funny in all my years of
weight training, I never did a good morning. What a great
exercise. I do not know how I went without those. The
box squat was excellent. This exercise seems like it will
fix my squat form. Cannot wait to do the other WS stuff.
