Neck pain during bench press

Kilroy

New member
I have a new problem with the bench press.
I moved up to 240 pounds recently,
and I find that I can push the weight up and
down fine, but the instant I set the bar down
and the pressure is relieved, I get a sudden,
sharp, intense pain on both sides from my
shoulders, over my collarbone, and up into my
neck. It's painful enough to stop me from
using the bench press. This is on a machine,
BTW. I don't have access to a freeweight bench
press. Also, I recently switched to High-Intensity
Training, so that I am working out the back
muscles on the same day as the chest;
maybe that has something to do with it.

I'm thinking this is probably because of your form. Many people tend to press hard against the bench with their heads when pressing heavy weight. This may cause u to sprain a muscle in the neck area. Maybe the bench your on is of poor quality too. Best advice...find a place to train where u can use freeweights. U'll get a much stronger and muscular body.

I agree with MuSuLPhReAK, it's probably your form. Plus you might be lifting too much. Either way, you do not want to fuck with a sharp neck/shoulder pain. Go very easy on it bro.
