Long Distance Running. What to do before Competition?

I'm have a Cross Country competition on April 19th, and I'm wondering what I could do to increase my speed? We run about 3-5K for the competition. Other than running, how else can I improve myself in this?

What should I be doing just before the competition? Like, 2-3 days before the 19th? Should I be doing anything different? Anything I can do that would help?

I ran Cross country for one year(hated it). I just did it to get in shape for wrestling. Anyway I would always strech really goog the days before. The last thing i wanted was to get out there and get hurt. get planty of rest. Dring plents of water and carb loading. You may not want to take this to heart though, I sucked bad!!!
 
i heard carb loading is bad if your not used to it.
im not sure though..ide like to know - please write the answer up if you find out
