Is it important to train to the point that you will be sore as fuck? Or should you drop the intensity so that you can make it to the gym the next day ? I sometimes like to max out and do crazy workouts that leave me a bit sore. But I also know just taking easy and lifting 60-70% of my max will give me more consistency. Which is better?
 
You should do both.

A good training cycle has everything... super high intensity, moderate high intensity, moderate intensity, low intensity, high volume, moderate volume, low volume.
 
when you workout your goal is to break down muscle and then you repair it after

part of the process may involve being sore because that is your bodies natural inflammatory response. if you change your workout or do something new you probably will notice you get more sore for that reason.
