ice water after training

Hey guys, I'm curious about why some athletes and bodybuilders bath in ice cold water after training hard or playing a game, what are the benefits of that practice? thank you.

So-called Cyro-therapy works in much the same way as heat treatments do (many athletes do both). Contraction and expansion of blood vessels are reputed to force the removal (faster than not using them) of toxins etc from muscles. So speeding up recovery times.

It reduces inflammation and increases blood flow to the area. It's a really effective recovery technique actually.

After your next workout, try alternating 1 minute hot and 1 minute cold water on the muscle group you trained. Do 3-4 rounds. I bet you any amount of money that you won't wake up sore the next morning.

It is just another way to help with recovery. Not something I would do though! I am not a fan of being cold. I get enough of that weather here.
