I perform squats using dumbbells, is it better to put the dumbbells over my shoulders while squatting or should I leave them down by my side? Does it make a difference?

Over your shoulders should work your core more, although if you are using light dumbells it probably won't matter
Don’t by your side and it becomes more of a deadlift. I’d go with shoulders.

Just do regular barbell squats.
I'm used to doing it over my shoulders.
