Ummm....sorry it has in fact NOT been proven. What has been shown in a recent study is that for some reason men in the study group who ejaculated more than 21 times in a month showed a 33% decrease in prostate cancer indications. That is hardly proof (unfortuneately). This is merely a correlation that could be explained in some other way that may or may not be associated with blowing your load. Results of a study or two don't "prove" a thing. Otherwise we'd be both exersising one way, and the other because there is a study proving both. Keep in mind that the media takes these researchers "suspicions" and runs with them as fact.

In all fairness to your statement however, if my wife asks me.....I'M TAKING YOUR STORY AND STICKING TOO IT!!!

On another note if we take Olympic atheletes who DEVOTE themselves to performance, you can find just as many that believe in having sex/masturbating/ or whatever before sporting events, as those that believe in abstaining from those activities. All revolving around performance measures.

So I think the bottom line is: It's up in the air. (no pun intended...lol!)
 
coaches tell players to abstain from beatin it or gettin play cuz it helps in their on field performance... whatever the field. I find by doing my middle leg exercises my in sac performance is much better. Since I am not a player on any field, just in the sac, or kitchen table or shower or floor or couch or car or stairs or ...well pretty much anywhere that can be used to bone, I say beat it and enjoy the benefits.. like they say, practice makes perfect!!! :D

Pretend like yur peeing and in the middle of peeing, clench yur muscle to stop peeing. Do this as a part of your workout, (3 sets of 12...or whatever you do) try holding it as long as you can.. its not the easiest thing to do. keep doing it and you'll notice a harder cock for your woman to ride. Hey jimmy I I see your point but if your theroy is true are they putting someting in the food out here. I'm in afghanistan (us army) I've been here for a few months and i can't remember the last time I rubed one out. In fact I don't even feel like it and I don't wake up with morning wood any more either. I'm not sure how many other guys are like me but I know there are a few and we are not fighting eachother and there is not agressive behavior. Of corse we are under the rules of "No Porn" and "No Sex". So I'm not doughting your theroy in fact it makes sence to me and validates my theroy witch is that we are being fed something that lowers our testosterone level. Do you know of any such thing? I'm looking in to the affects of soy and the ingredants of an antibiodic that we are being forced to take for melaria. If you have any Idea as to any other direction I shood look would you please let me know. Thank you Greg

It seems logical, from an evolutionary standpoint, that abstaining from ejaculation would increase the testosterone level. Ejaculation signals to the body that sex has taken place, and that since the male has been successful in finding a mate there would be no need to further increase testosterone. Thus if a male is not having sex, the body compensates by increasing the testosterone level to increase the chances of fighting off the other males and finding a mate.

Also, there are alot of nutrients in minerals in semen that are lost when you ejaculate. One of these is zinc. Most of us know zinc is essential to testosterone production. Thus whenever you ejaculate you lose zinc, but I'm not sure how much. Some websites say only .5-1mg, others said up to 5mg. 5mg is a pretty large amount compared to how much the body absorbs. I've also read that semen contains testosterone, and that this testosterone could potentially be re-absorbed by the body if not ejaculated.

I think it would be interesting if someone would quit ejaculating or reduce ejaculation frequency for a while, and compare their gains during that time to their normal gains.

Your thoughts please.

2 months and having sex I believe 2-3 times the whole 2 months, then jacking off 5-7 times a week, I felt a huge difference. I felt WAY STRONGER than I ever have, if you search my name, you should find the topic. I still can not do the same amount of weight as I was doing in Jan-Feb 05. Its been aprox 4 weeks since my ending of my testing, and cant seem to stop jacking off and I cant get my power levels back....grrrrrrrr

Masturbation can easily lead to deficiency of zinc. Because semen contains alot of zinc. Though ejaculate volume varies: ranges "typically" from 1.5 to 5.0 mL. But it is not by any means restricted to that someone's EV could be 6.0 mL, or below 1.5 mL which is the lower limit and significantly below 1.5 mL has been considered abnormal. It is known that it can also easily be something else like 7 mL or maybe even up at 10 mL! The upper limit for zinc concentration in the ejaculates of 80 men aged 20-45 yrs old was 6.5 mmol/L (the median was 2.50 mmol/L) in: Clinical Chemistry, Vol 31, 878-880, 1985. Acid phosphatase and zinc in semen of subjects with no clinical evidence of prostatic disease. M Vaubourdolle, JP Clavel, L Cynober, A Piton and A Galli, that 6.5 mmol/L corresponds to 0.4247 mg/mL* 5 mL ejaculate = 2.1235 mg. And for 2.50 mmol/L = 0.163475 mg/mL.

In 25 older men of average age: 57.4±6.8 years old. Zn was in "prostatic fluid" in a range of: 3721.9-5789.4 (median: 4641.9) micro mol/L, whereas in serum it was in a range of 11.98-15.30 micro mol/L, median: 13.54 (Early and late long-term effects of vasectomy on Zn, Cd, and Cu levels in prostatic fluid and serum. Asian J Androl. 2000 Jun;2(2):121-4. Mo ZN, Huang WH, Chen J, Huang X, Zhang SC.). Equating to respectively: 0.2435-0.3786 mg/mL (median: 0.3035 mg/mL). In a zinc determination method in seminal fluid, researchers discovered concentrations of zinc of up to 0.4 mg/mL: Rapid colorimetry of zinc in seminal fluid. Clin Chem. 1984 Aug;30(8):1366-8. Equating to 3.5-5.0 mL volume: 0.742 - 1.06 mg/ejaculate. In 41 controls zinc levels in semen were: 134.6 +/- 42 mcg/mL (Zinc in human semen. Int J Androl. 1986 Dec;9(6):477-80. Canale D, Bartelloni M, Negroni A, Meschini P, Izzo PL, Bianchi B, Menchini-Fabris GF.) 0.0926 - 0.1766 mg/mL, corresponding to respective 3.5-5.0 mL: 0.324mg - 0.883 mg. From these studies we see zinc has ranging concentrations in semen. Although the typical upper limit from at least one of these studies was some 4mg lost, they only show the concentrations found in those specific samples and do not apply to the general public although the results they obtained could be typical of some men.

As for women: Zinc has an important role for them as well, but the losses are less pronounced than in men. Zinc is present in small amounts in precoital vaginal fluid 4.5 mcg/mL (range: 1.2 to 15 mcg/mL) (Vaginal fluid zinc concentration as a marker for intercourse. J Forensic Sci. 1988 Jan;33(1):77-83. Rogers C, Bernstein G, Nakamura R, Endahl G, Bhoopat T). Menstrual fluid contains zinc in very small amounts, like 5 mcg/day (Zinc excretion in young women on low zinc intakes and oral contraceptive agents. J Nutr. 1977 Sep;107(9):1610-20. Hess FM, King JC, Margen S.). I don't know the average amount of mL produced by a woman for lubricative process for a regular sexually active session (that probably can individually vary too), a random guess but it's maybe 10-20 mL: for which 15 mL for the average 4.5 mcg/mL: 0.0675 mg zinc loss. Assuming a higher volume: 50 mL, 4.5 mcg/mL = 0.225 mg lost. Maybe a worst case scenario 15 mcg/mL + 50 mL: 0.75 mg lost. Similarly; female ejaculate has been found to contain fructose and prostatic acid phosphatase which are also regulars of semen, so maybe other components are in there too, maybe even zinc. However, during regular intercourse a woman will receive a nice intravaginal dose of zinc from the semen.

Anyway the point is: zinc loss wether in amounts of 0.1 mg, 0.5mg or 5mg will have a significant effect in the body as its large role in particular enzymes (it is a "micronutrient" acting at the cellular level to generate testosterone, GH efficiently).


Zinc (Zn) is needed for all types of functions in the body; "Approximately 300 enzymes are known to require Zn for their activities. Zn is required for DNA synthesis, cell division, and protein synthesis." (Zinc: an overview. Nutrition. 1995 Jan-Feb;11(1 Suppl):93-9. Prasad AS.)!! The importance of some of these enzymes have a role also in the synthesis of proteins and antioxidants, e.g. like copper-zinc superoxide dismutase (CuZn SOD), which scavenges toxic oxidizing free radicals.

Men placed on a zinc-deficient diet showed testosterone levels decreased along with zinc levels (Zinc status and serum testosterone levels of healthy adults. Nutrition. 1996 May;12(5):344-8. Prasad AS, Mantzoros CS, Beck FW, Hess JW, Brewer GJ). Abstinence from masturbation has shown a increase in testosterone levels in men (Endocrine response to masturbation-induced orgasm in healthy men following a 3-week sexual abstinence. Word J Urol 2001 Nov; 19(5):377-82. Exton MS, Kruger TH, Bursch N, Haake P, Knapp W, Schedlowski M, Hartmann U). A study has found that serum testosterone is sensitive to short-term zinc depletion (Effects of dietary zinc depletion on seminal volume and zinc loss, serum testosterone concentrations, and sperm morphology in young men. IGF-I and Zinc levels (in humans zinc deficiency equates to low serum IGF-I concentrations), and zinc itself as a growth factor: Failure of exogenous IGF-I to restore normal growth in rats submitted to dietary zinc deprivation. Journal of Endocrinology (1998) 159, 211-217. That's significant because IGF-I is the apparent mediator of of growth hormone (GH) actions, including of its great importance in mediating the growth of muscle and other tissues (Florini et al, 1996, Endocrine Reviews 17: 481-517, also see: The relationships among IGF-1, DNA content, and protein accumulation during skeletal muscle hypertrophy. J.Appl. Physiol. 81(6): 2509-16, 1996). "Zinc is a growth factor. Its deficiency adversely affects growth in many animal species and humans. In one study done on animals they concluded that some effects of administered growth hormone became uneffective under a zinc-deficiency (Effect of growth hormone on epiphyseal growth plates in zinc deficiency. Zinc is a natural aromatase inhibitor (Dietary zinc deficiency alters 5-alpha-reduction and aromatization of testosterone and androgen and estrogen receptors in rat liver. J Nutr. 126(4): 842-848 (1996). Since aromatase converts testosterone to estrogen and may indirectly increase sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG). And since SHBG binds to free testosterone; preventing it from its biochemical effects in the body, it is good to have zinc. Additionally, zinc deficiency has shown in animals very significant effects on protein synthesis in terms of there being reduction of amino acid [3H]leucine incorporation into skeletal muscle (Effects of magnesium and zinc deficiencies on growth and protein synthesis in skeletal muscle and the heart. Br J Nutr. 1991 Nov;66(3):493-504. Dorup I, Clausen T). Lack of zinc affects the protein metabolism significantly, and in one study was found with zinc: a "a greater net absorption of nitrogen and a higher rate of protein turnover" (Eur J Clin Nutr. 1992 Oct;46(10):697-706. Effect of zinc on lean tissue synthesis during recovery from malnutrition. Golden BE, Golden MH). A mild zinc deficiency in 4 male volunteers yielded results of "adverse effect of zinc restriction on total protein, total collagen, ribonucleic acid, and the activity of deoxythymidine kinase (a zinc-dependent enzyme) in the sponge connective tissue of the two volunteers in whom this test was done was noted" and they also noted that: "Weight loss occurred in all subjects as a result of dietary zinc restriction." (Experimental zinc deficiency in humans. Ann Intern Med. 1978 Oct; 89(4):483-90. Prasad AS, Rabbani P, Abbasii A, Bowersox E, Fox MR). "A mild level of zinc deficiency may manifest with decreased serum testosterone level and oligospermia in males, decreased lean body mass," etc, etc. (Zinc in growth and development and spectrum of human zinc deficiency. Zinc also affects the thyroid hormone metabolism, what can affect body weight, low thyroid is known to cause muscle abnormalities (like muscular weakness). Where lower blood levels of thyroxine (T4) has shown a correlation to lower zinc in people even without a deficiency of zinc (Effect of zinc on some biochemical indices of metabolism. Nutr Metab. 1979;23(4):294-300. Hartoma TR, Sotaniemi EA, Maattanen J). Testosterone (0.5 ng/ml) and 5-a-dihydrotestosterone (0.3 ng/ml) have also been found in human semen among other steroids (GC-MS studies of 16-androstenes and other C19 steroids in human semen. J Steroid Biochem Mol Biol. 1992 Nov;43(6):549-56. Kwan TK, Trafford DJ, Makin HL, Mallet AI, Gower DB.) in very small amounts: 1 nanogram = 0.000000001 g; just maybe if they were present in microgram (1 mcg = 0.000001 g) but certainly in milligram (1mg = 0.001g) then it would be significant, men normally produce 4-10 mg of testosterone per day, the powerful effects we see in the studies with testosterone or its deriatives are in amounts of like >25-600mg/week. And prostaglandin E1 also appears in significant amounts in seminal plasma (Prostaglandins of human seminal plasma. Blue Sheet. 1963;89:34. Samuelsson B.) PGE-1 stimulates the production of testosterone in the Leydig cells of the testes, where 95% of the androgens like testosterone in man is produced in the testes. Prostaglandin E2 is also found in human seminal fluid in large concentrations. Both PGE-1 and PGE-2 are involved in and potent stimulators of GH secretion (Prostaglandins 1976 Feb;11(2):285-91. But, you guessed it: zinc is also involved in prostaglandin synthesis (PGE1), and selenium participates also in the synthesis of PGE1: Nutrients, essential fatty acids and prostaglandins interact to augment immune responses and prevent genetic damage and cancer. Nutrition. 1989 Mar-Apr;5(2):106-10. Das UN).

Severely zinc-deficient rats have been found to have an imbalance in EFAs, particularly in our interest, lower levels of omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acid-in particular linoleic acid in rats fed a source of this fatty acid (Lipids 1994 Dec;29(12):839-44. Levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids in tissues from zinc-deficient rats fed a linseed oil diet. Eder K, Kirchgessner M). Arachidonic acid, produced from omega-6 FA, plays an important role in testicular steroidogenesis (J Endocrinol Invest 1995 Mar;18(3):186-93. Arachidonic acid and its metabolites effects on testosterone production by rat Leydig cells. Romanelli F, Valenca M, Conte D, Isidori A, Negro-Vilar A.). The protein loss associated by being present in semen is a couple few mg. Semen contains in small amounts: choline, creatine, vitamins C, B12, calcium and some other minerals and substances. Semen also contains a large quantity of the antioxidant micronutrient selenium, which is also a significant element in the production of testosterone and male fertility: In the male, largest amount of selenium found in the reproductive organs is in testis (Selenium in human male reproductive organs. Hum Reprod. 1998 Aug;13(8):2172-6. Oldereid NB, Thomassen Y, Purvis K). Selenium participates in the biosynthesis of tesotosterone (Selenium--its biological perspectives. Semen although it contains only small amounts of vitamin B12, contains very large amounts of a vitamin B12 transporting and binding agent, transcobalamin II (TCII), in fact, according to this study: "The strikingly higher concentration of transcobalamin II in seminal plasma, averaging tenfold higher than that in serum, makes semen the most concentrated depot of transcobalamin II in man." (Transcobalamin II in human seminal plasma. J Clin Invest. 1984 Mar;73(3):868-72. Carmel R, Bernstein GS). Deficiency in this by lack of this protein can result in disrupted vitamin B12 metabolism and can maybe even promote vitamin B12 deficiency. Vitamin B12 deficiency or decrease can influence the nervous system and blood cells and when bad enough has ranging effects: weakness, tiredness, fatigue, depression, megaloblastic anemia, neurological diseases, etc. Although vitamin B12 is also carried by TCI and TCIII. In vitamin B12 deficiency the cobalamin is carried by the TCI and TCIII. That tells us TCII is the most significant carrier. I am not too sure about the implications of this.

Vitamin C also helps reduce lipid peroxidation in the testis what results in smoother steroidogenesis reactions (as reactive oxygen species (ROS) that includes like that of hydrogen peroxide (HOOH); peroxy -OO-, hydroperoxy -OOH, and hydroxy -OH radicals that are damaging to steroidogenesis process in the testis being formed there and lowering testosterone production along the way (read: Mol Cell Endocrinol. 2004 Jun 30;221(1-2):57-66. Ascorbic acid, molar mass: 176.13 g/mol.

micro (0.000001) * 523.40 = 0.0005234 moles.

0.0005234 moles * 176.13 g/mol = 0.092186442 g/L of semen for ascorbic acid.

so: 0.092186442 mg/mL

Loss is almost like 1 mg.....not much.


Possibly messing with the nervous system chemicals too as an erectile response in men and women is held up by the neurotransmitter acetylcholine (ACh), produced in the body from choline and pantothenic acid, which transmits nerve signals to the muscles and as all of the muscular contractions in the body occur due this chemical, where the enzyme acetylcholinesterase inhibits the signaling, those now famous nerve agents act by inhibiting this enzyme that is what causes those lethal violent convulsions and incontrollable muscular contractions, so zapping (draining the resources) acetylcholine with hours of sexual activity before workouts probably isn't too good. According to some guy named Dr. Lin, too much sexual activity/masturbation in humans also messes with parasympathetic nervous system chemicals what can also affect acetylcholine production.

The decision to be sexually active and lift weights is one that ideally simply would incorporate: sensibility, control, good nutrition, attitude, and very importantly: balance. Too much zinc is probably as bad as too little zinc. A disruption in the balance decreases the total full potential one has, so too much sexual activity can definetly impact the weight lifting life. Negative results of masturbation/sexual activity influencing weight-lifting include: noticing huge setbacks to some, little or maybe even no difference. This difference in variability of noticing effects is because at least for one, zinc is "a" factor. Drainage of these substances like selenium, and at least for zinc also negatively affects the immune system; bones; connective tissue; growth; wound healing; and stuff like stretch marks (zinc deficiency impacts collagen).

A further problem for excersing individual is that not only losing zinc through regular urine, fecal matter, sweat, etc. is that in an exercising individual where there is alot of sweating loses a "considerable amount" of zinc through the sweat more than someone who is not exercising; as diet further complicating it, like alcohol wether wine or other type of alcoholic beverage increase the excertion of zinc through the urine (Wine versus ethanol in human nutrition. IV. Zinc balance. Am J Clin Nutr. 1980 May;33(5):1096-102. McDonald JT, Margen S). Additionally, "simply eating food" does not compensate nor reintroduce the proper quantity of zinc for a zinc deficit it has to be the right type of food (good sources of zinc: meats, dairy products (milk, eggs, etc.), seafood, oysters, poultry, beans, lentils, yeast, nuts, seeds, wholegrain cereals, etc. Baked beans, muesli or pumpkin seeds are said to be great sources of zinc). Then again, there are also biochemical factors from these food sources that affect the absorption of zinc from these sources as well as varying concentrations of zinc found in these sources making some better choices than others. USP 4124718 ("Enhancing zinc serum and tissue levels", EL Giroux, NJ Prakash; PJ Schechter; 1978) states that supplementation with zinc salts like: zinc oxide, zinc carbonate, zinc chloride, zinc sulfate, zinc gluconate, zinc lactate may be beneficial as "it has been found that the absorption of zinc from the gastrointestinal tract is often inhibited by food material present therein. Diets containing protein or phytic acid from bean, particularly soybean, or cereal, free amino acids or ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid, inactivate or make unavailable the dietary zinc." A further example could be that from milk: milk contains lactose and that in the body metabolizes to galactose but both of those have been found to decrease zinc chloride uptake in animals through the intestinal tract (Chemical factors affecting the intestinal absorption of zinc in vitro and in vivo. Br J Nutr. 1983 Sep;50(2):317-24. Seal CJ, Heaton FW), where histidine and aspartic acid where supportive of absorption. Furthermore, zinc-amino acid chelates are also more readily absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract where a straight inorganic zinc compound like Zn-sulfate, -oxide, etc. has to be bound in the body to organic binding substances before it can be absorbed which is further complicated by large amounts of: calcium, phosphates, other divalent cations (e.g. heavy metals like cadmium, lead, etc. which are toxic and lesser toxic heavy metals like copper which compete with zinc), phytates (found in soy), or fiber because these all can form insoluble complexes with zinc making it less availible ("Zinc amino acid chelates having ligands comprised of glycine and a sulfur-containing amino acids", US6166071, (2000), SD Ashmead, DC Wheelwright).
