best shoes to squat/deadlifts

I have seen on tv and in videos guys wearing some interesting styles of footwear. I currently do it in regular Nike sneakers. I see other guys doing it barefoot and some even doing it in socks right there in the gym. is there any reason for various ways of doing this? i notice the guys who don't wear anything more serious

i would train everything barefoot if it was practicle

but no gym will ever let anyone do this. it is extremely unsanitary, google foot fungus
