Benefits of stretching

I always listen that stretching is very beneficial for human health but i never know what are the benefits so can you please tell me some benefits of stretching. Thanks
 
Stretching has become very important to me as I get older. What I do is stretch first thing in the morning, for 15-20 minutes after training, and right before bed. It keeps me flexible and feeling great.
 
Well, it does engage the muscles so it reasonably burns calories, albeit not a large amount if I had to guess. I commonly stretch lightly before exercise (basic warm-up, get moving) and greater after exercise (try to hold poses longer, stretch as far as practicable) because an old physical ed teacher said me that stretching after exercise had the most impressive in terms of building up flexibility over time.
