Bench Press-Bottom Position?

Brattt

New member
This may be a dumb question, but what is the best location for the bar to touch your body, when bench pressing?

Is it better to have it closer to the head, or to the stomach? (Assuming a relatively wide grip is used) My tris are prolly the weak point of m bench, if that makes a difference on what method is best.

Thanks

i always have it right above my upper abs, right under my chest

The correct form is to lower the bar to the top of your abs/just below your nipple and to press up in a straight line. This increases your leverage if you properly drive your upper back into the bench using your legs -- giving the effect of almost "pressing downward." Also , keeping the barpath low on your chest will insure that you keep your elbows tucked in, which is also good form. Tucking the elbows allows you to use your triceps better and is just plain safer because you're not stretching the pecs as much.
