Okay I know egg beaters is for a lower cholesterol diet....well recommended anyway.....but would that be the substitution for egg whites???? Just the thought of wasting all those yolks (my hubby could eat them....). Just a thought.

If you are talking about baking and that sort of thing, I wouldn't necessarily sub Egg Beaters for egg whites. In general, though, I think Egg Beaters are a good substitute for egg whites in terms of taste and general nutrition, though there's nothing wrong with egg whites except for taste.

I guess I was just asking cuz my favorite part of the egg is.....yup you guessed it...the yolk. I was wondering if egg beaters tastes the same as an egg with yolk.....okay let me rephrase that.....lets say i want to make an omlet. Traditionally, you would make an omlet with the whole egg, but in a fitness diet, you usually do it with egg whites and one whole egg or just egg whites period. If I used egg beaters for an omlet or even scrambled eggs, is it going to taste the same as regular whipped up whole eggs and have the same nutritional value as egg whites???????

I can stand egg whites.....but they are soooooo boring ya know. That's why I like the yolks and that is a bad nutritional habit thing. When I used to make hard boiled eggs, I would eat the yolk and then throw the whites away.....I was like maybe 10 or younger.

Egg beaters are totally legitimate. Honestly, I hardly notice the difference. Another plus is that most egg substitutes are pasteurized, meaning its a lot safer to make your scrambled eggs runny.

egg yolks are not all that bad for you. It is not a fact that foods consumed with high cholesterol lead to high cholesterol in humans, from what I have read. The body needs some, and eggs is a healthy source. I wouldn't worry about it so much but I wouldn't go overboard with 10 egg yolksa day. Try to stay around 5. There has been threads on eggs on this site already if you wanna browse. Anyone else have some info on this?

Egg beaters taste ok...there just so expensive...its alot cheaper to eat eggs...with or without the yolk..I guess there reasonable if you dont eat eggs alot...but I go through a carton every other day.

I prefer "All Whites" just another egg white product, but they taste much less artificial to me and are actually white, not like egg beaters with the artificial coloring and stuff. Little cheaper too. My $.02

From a nutritional standpoint, eggbeaters are fine. But playdo is right, they are much pricier than the real thing. However, many stores will offer a generic version of them that is pretty reasonable. I use Safeway's "Best of the Egg." You can get a quart of it for $3.50 here.
