What to tell the Realtor???

This is my situation. Both my girlfriend and I work at a strip club. We'll be moving soon and we found the PERFECT house for rent to move into. We both have perfect credit and more than enough money to pay the rent, so our problems aren't financial. When it comes around to the question "what do you do for a living?", I don't want that to ruin our chances of getting the place. Should we tell the realtor the truth or make up some occupation that isn't so looked down upon? I think it will be pretty shitty for them not to give us the place just for our occupation but I don't know if I'm willing to give up this house...

Not sure how it is where you are, but in NYC landlords and realtors are prohibited from discriminating against tenants based on their occupations. Examine your local housing laws.

Or you could just tell them you work for a catering company.

Yeah, but I doubt they'll tell us that's the reason why though. The catering idea is a good idea. Also we were thinking about telling them we owned our own buisness. Which is true in a sense. We're both indepenedent contractors. My girlfriend was thinking about telling them she was a model too...

If you tell them you own your own business, they might ask you for earnings statements. "Model" is often a euphemism for stripper, so you'd be right back where you started.

My GF uses "catering" as her occupation, and we had no problem getting a nice apartment.

Couldn't/wouldn't they check that out possibly though???

They had asked for a letter on company letterhead explaining her job--she simply got someone in the place she works for (it has a neutral sounding name) to make one out saying she does freelance catering for them.

I would just tell the truth, they cant discriminate and besides they want your money (trust me, Ive been in the business) most of all :)
