Is it them or the Russian wolfhounds that are so tall? One time I was at the dog show in Philadelphia and I wasn't really paying attention to where I was walking. I looked up and I was in a forest of wolfhounds Weirdest feeling on earth being eye to eye with a dog and they're standing on all fours! My sister in law owned a Neopolitan mastiff for a while and even he wasn't as tall as these dogs were.
still doesnt explain why any rational human would risk getting sued and/or having a hurt/injured animal or child on your hands as a result of trusting a pit.
it's mostly white trash who creates a demand for these animals. face it.
Stupid is as stupid does. Pits do have it bred into them to be aggressive but that does not mean they automatically are. Anyone here ever had a lab that didn't swim? It happens. I don't own nor ever have owned a pit but my gf's father saved one as a puppy. They didn't chop his ears like those idiots do and if you were not sharp you would think it was marmaduke. He's great around kids and neighbors. Yes his breed is pre dispositioned to be aggressive but he is not. He has been raised not to attack on command or abused. He is very obedient and gentle. He even runs away from their first dog. A pug. So don't make blanket assumptions about peoples ignorance for sticking up for a dog breed. If you are raised by white trash chances are that dogs gonna be a piece of shit. But so could any breed for that matter.
lol I'm not too fond of the look of fully grown pit bulls (I don't think they are ugly...I just don't think they are all that great looking either....muscly heads and little ears and stocky bodies), but these puppies were ridiculous. Just the sweetest things ever.
I hate that about big dogs. I looooove the large breeds, love them, but it would kill me to only have them in my life that short time. down the road when I get my own I'll probably get an australian cattle dog....my experience with my roommates dogs has been unreal. The blue heeler I pictured above is my furry angel, and they are both so damn smart, and very protective (and cattle dogs live fairly long dog lives). maybe a border collie....I've heard those are amazing dogs too.
lol molly almost ripped my head off today. I got locked out of my house and had to hop the fence and crawl in the dog door lmao. Molly came roaring around the corner with a NASTY "get the fuck out of my house" bark before she saw it was me and then proceeded to lick my face while I contorted myself through the hole. On the one hand I was like, "Hmmm, someone could get in this way, not good." Then I was like, nevermind, Molly's got this taken care of.
My ex husband had a newfie before he met me. He loved the dog but they really like the water and really are meant for cold weather. Hip dysplasia is an issue with them, too, so be careful (actually, it's a problem with virtually every damn giant breed).
This was a dog that would gladly jump into freezing water. His used to actually sleep with her head in the water dish.
I don't want all that coat to take care of myself, too much like work. If I was going for a giant breed I'd get a bull mastiff or dog d'Bordeaux.
yeah..I live in new england...have considered getting certified in water rescue with a dog and live near a major river in the state that has tons of trails etc..plus like snow shoeing in the winter...
I thought a newf would be a good fit...I also prefer large dogs and would like to get away from aggressive breeds...
I love german shepherds but I have actually been sued over two of my shepherds
a family at my daughters preschool has a bordeaux, nother friend breeds bull mastiffs
too much force behind those animals for me to be comfortable with them with children (not that a newf is a lightweight)
English Mastiffs are the biggest breed pound for pound. My business partner has one and got it as a puppy. Literally everytime I saw her shed be like 10 lbs heavier.
