Told I was doing cardio\lifting wrong at the gym by trainer... Any advice?

I have two words for you...

"Olympic Sprinters"

Those boys are cut up beyond belief. While, some of them are smaller, they are very strong.

This guy is a perfect example.

http://www.usatf.org/athletes/bios/Crawford_Shawn.asp

The guy benches 350lbs. They did a special on him during last year's olympics. They asked him when's the last time he jogged. His reply was "man I've never ran a timed mile". He claimed all he did was sprinting and working out with heavy weights.

I do cardio at 11 for about 1 hour and then i go the gym at about 4 for 2 hours and i eat about 500 more calories a day than my body consumes but my diets pretty strict 20%fat 1.5g protein per pound of weight and rest is carbs and and i keep my heart rate from 170 bps to 180 bps and im losing around 2 lbs a week and im going up atleast 5 lbs a week on everything in the weights and this is my 7th week to be doing the same thing and personally i think its working better than anyone has told me it would.

tay great job bro.. i dont think i could ever do cardio for an hour than go workout for 2..

yeah thanks for the comp. it is hard as hell i can tell u that i work out usually atleast 4 hours a day including abs and such and it pays off

If you do cardio after weights, keep it brief, then get some PWO nutrition in. Preserving as much muscle as possible is the name of the game IMO. Maybe 15-20 minutes of HIIT. I think stilleto's advice is solid too, but someimes it's not possible due to hectic schedules to divide it up so I wanted to give you another option.
Some cardio first thing in the morning before eating seems to be the consensus as the ideal way to do it, with weights done several hours (6-8) later.

Andof course like the others stated the diet's gotta be right- several small meals/day, take it easy on simple carbs, don't starve yourself- just take it slow and it adds up over time.
no offense, but im pretty sure doing cardio first thing in the morning BEFORE EATING would be a very bad idea. yea youre right on about diet, small meals all day, as the more constant you eat, your metabolism is stimulated. never workout or do cardio or heck, do anything without eating first thing you wake up. i think a lot of realy fat people skip breakfast thinking the less they eat the more weight theyll lose but this is sooo wrong. you WILL burn muscle if you run or jog without eating somthing at least an hour before

I think that's probably right. I see lots of people giving that advice (cardio first thing) but I've been reading up for my own cutting program and the majority of reputable sources advise NOT doing cardio without eating. It makes sense as going from not eating for 8+ hours straight into activity seems like a recipe for catabolism.

There's so much conflicting advice out there! One must really read a lot before drawing conclusions.

I think the biggest deal is watch what you eat for all 5 or 6 meals. As far as cardio, I've been bulking for so long, I can't remember what cardio is. I would never not eat and lift/cardio or cardio lift. Personally, when I did trim down, I lifted and then did cardio. Cardio was a moderate pace (130-140 bpm) for no longer than 20 minutes.

I love getting on the statioanry bike and doing 20minutes at 150-160bpm. I feel that is my perfect fat burning zone. plus I always do it after weights so my glycogen stores and gone so I'm really burning fat.

just a theory, but possibly if you took clenbuterol (or somthing else that stop catabolism) and did cardio first in the morning on empty stomach, then MAYBE you would burn fat stores??? i will have to research this more...
