The “Target Heart Rate” Myth

Fat loss is not that simple. If you're a bodybuilder already doing 4 very intense weight sessions while getting cut for a show (lowered carb intake) then you have to be careful of how much high intensity cardio you do. In other words reglycogenation, recovery and catabolism become major issues for someone on a pre-competition diet schedule. However, if you are bulking, or not a bodybuilder, and not on strict carb restrictions then I would go for the higher intensity everytime. Not only can you burn more calories in a shorter time, but interval work in particular can raise your metabolic rate compared to low intensity longer sessions... Sprints baby, sprints!
