Soy-based foods received more recognition for their heart-healthy properties, this time from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Manufacturers are now allowed to print labels with the claim that soy protein, when combined with a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet, may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. The FDA believes there are sufficient studies indicating that eating 25 grams of soy protein per day can reduce total and LDL cholesterol levels in the blood. To be able to make this claim, soy products such as vegetable burgers or baked goods containing soy flour must have 6.25 grams per serving
