i remember seeing the word "doneness" on the back of some frozen food. i.e. "heat in the microwave for 5 minutes, then check for doneness." i laughed and thought it was a mistake.

i hate that it qualifies as a legitimate word. i don't like orientate for the same reason.

here's a common one I can't even correct anyone on: Going to prom.
does being a senior in high school mean you don't have to use the word "THE"? Prom is not the name of a place, like "Denny's". I'm going to Denny's makes sense. I'm going to Gym does not because it's THE GYM and THE PROM.

there are many proms because proms is a noun.
so if you're not being clear about which prom you're going to, it's "a prom".

substitute "formal dance" for the word "prom" and EVERYONE would say, "i'm going to A formal dance".

She is very annoying when it comes to english.
She can never read a news paper just to read it .She has to read it to find errors or ways of wording shit.
She reads books and writes to the authors and tells them mistakes
she is a real boring person in general.

She just said " going to prom " can be correct, going is the action and prom is the event or location.
Just as a person says " going to burger king "
" going to wal-mart ", " going to prom "
Unless the name of the prom is called " the prom " and my prom was not the banner just said prom 95. Going means present tense and happing right now or the action.
If girl says she is " going clubbing " that is correct also.
Or she could say "going to the club".

" Where are you going young lady ? "
" I'm going to prom, see yea ! "
"Where" already gave the location .
All depends on the conversation and if the girl is in the process of leaving to prom or not.
