Idiots that own pitbulls

I have owned a dobbie and shepard - but I would never own a pitbull - unless you knew the dogs lines 3 or 4 up, there is a chance the dog might be born with a screw loose, and no amount of training will correct it.

For those with the lovable, friendly pit bulls, and anyone else for that matter - would you let your kids around an unleased PB because the owner said he was harmless and friendly? If you knew the dog? I wouldn't - not if I knew the dog for years...too much of a chance.

Too many nitwits either already own or want a PB becuase of the status, becuase they are tough fighting dogs...but too many of them like to eat little kids and little dogs, unprovoked.

Why not get a lab or a malamute or a golden or something? What does the pit have on any of those dogs that people HAVE to have one?

I wouldn't let my kids around any dog that the owner said wasn't friendly. I'd be more worried about the small breed dogs than the larger ones too. Small breed dogs can be intimidated a lot faster than a large breed simply because a child can do more damage to the dog. I've seen more high strung small dogs that I wouldn't want to be around than large dogs.

And why doesn't someone get a small car instead of a $50K SUV? They don't "need" the SUV, they WANT one. How about the people that "need" a cell phone so they go and buy a $500 one instead of sticking with the phone that they get for free with their plan?

It's a dog. Any dog can be raised to be mean, doesn't matter what the breed. More people are injured and killed by breeds of dogs other than pit bulls every year, but you have a few moral entrepreneurs that feel it's their duty to get rid of a breed because the media and others blow it out of proportion and make up statistics. If they were successful in getting rid of pitbulls, rotts would be next, then dobermans, and so on and so forth, until the only dog you'd be legally allowed to own would be a miniature poodle.

Just out of curiousity Mr. Fast Twitch, which Pitbull owners are posting on this thread besides myself...?? At what point did I boast of my dogs ability to do anything other than snuggle...??

Sounds to me like someone needs to move out of the hood, where all of their neighbors are big, boarish, bullies.

this fall onto the way the dog is raised... if the dog is brought around kids..

test should be done to see how the dog responds to things like grabbing his tail, putting hand near food and water.. etc etc.. before even considering any child to be around it.. and that goes for ANY DOG.

I had the same mentality before I owned one and saw how caring she was... how loveable and how great she was with my kids. But I raised all of my dogs the same from My POM to my German Shephard to the Pit.... all were around strangers from day one... they knew the boundries and how to warn me if someone was around that shouldn't be.. but they also knew simple commands... if I needed them to step down.

Train the dog... interact with other animals and people... This isn't breed related.
