sometimes I get those intense pains as well and I end up binging for 1 meal then i go back to the diet. If i don't binge... i think I'd go crazy. Some people have a cheat day, meal or w/e. I cheat when I really can't take it anymore, which is about once every 3 days. If you read Pardeus's paper on Leptin you'd find out if you refeed (cheat) you can increase your leptin levels. Well, anytime I get to around 7 or 8% body fat and stay there for a few weeks I start to get sick. I have no plans on entering a show anytime due to my small frame, so I'm just going to stay around 10% and I'm fine. Just my abs don't shine as much, but I still pick up chicks either way at the beach so..
You said in your post topic should you ignore hunger. When you feel hungry try drinking a glass of water, if youre still hungry EAT> Remeber thirst is sometimes mistaken for hunger
If I feel hungry at a time when I don't really want to add calories, I usually just eat foods like uncooked cauliflower or other uncooked (or lightly cooked) vegetables that are extremely low in calories compared to other foods.
