Those gentlemen mentioned fall under the category of "was", as in "was" the fastest at one point in time.
Not anymore though!

ben johnson ran the exact same time. 10 years earlier and slowed at the end and raised his arms ten meters before the finish. slowing himself up conssiderably. ben also ran9.60 in perth australia. not recognized as a record because of governing body sanctions and aslo his drug suspension.

I think they should have an uncorked Olympics to see what the human body can do. Johnson proved we are capable of way more than we admit. Let the fucker roll, go on, pass out the dbol and stanozolol......gooooooood.......now..... add some test......there we go, now who's got the A-bombs?

I disagree, those times still stand as World Records, until they have been broken the record holders are the fastest ever.

Yeah Ben would have hit a 9.72-9.74 if he would have kept on running through the line. He never ran 9.60 in Perth, Australia it was 9.70 and the performance wasn't allowed because the wind factor was approx. +5.1 and the allowable limit is 2.0. It was also hand timed so in total it was only a 9.94 performance if it was FAT (Fully Automatic Timing). His drug suspension (first in '88 and second in '93) had nothing to do with his Perth time in '87.

Let me reiterate for the ones who cannot comprehend the English language. "Was" represents a "past" occurence or happening, or something that is not of the present or future. Ben "Winstrol" Johnson "was" at one time the fastest man. However, as of right now, if Ben Johnson got on the track with a Maurice Green caliber track athlete then Ben would suffer an easy defeat. There are at least 30 different track athletes that could beat Ben Johnson in regards to present day status and I'm being generous. Now, for example, lets say Maurice Green gets a 9.1 and just shatters all records; Maurice then retires, blah blah, 5 years later, no one has come close to the record but there are some who are running 9.6's, those gentleman are the fastest men in the world, not Maurice, Maurice is retired with arthritis in his knees. Thats all I'm saying about the "was" thing. peace to all

Although there are a lot of sprinter that doesnt get the respect they deserve. Frankie Fredrickson, Ato Boldon, Linford Christie and so on. Sprinting hasnt been as exciting as it was back in the days of Carl Lewis in a long time. there are alot of good sprinters out there, but it just feels to me like then Christie and Lewis went down in the blocks, there was a certain magic around it...maybe this is just cuz i was younger back then. but now, its not the same anymore.
