close quarter combat

Look up Geoff "Tank" Todd, I beleive he is in New Zealand, he has his own school down there that teaches the real stuff. Based on WWII hand to hand systems (Fairbairn, Applegate, Sykes, Nelson, Biddle...ETC). Stay with true CQC based programs, avoid M/A based, Here's the link

www.schoolofselfdefence.com
hope that helps.

this is indeed the real McCoy here. Tank's headquaters is in Dunedin, in the south island, though there are many depots around the country. a few of his 3rd phase guys teach in australoia too.

trained with Tank and many of his 2nd and 3rd phase guys. i have done other MA before, but this combat is for survival, not fitness and prettiness. i still use bit n pieces from my previous MA training, but the true combat schools dont teach MA. there is a difference.

Combat doesnt have tournaments. people would go to hospital.
tournaments are sports related. combat is not a sport.
there are phase tests however, 7 day intensive, though in combat depots the support is great.

give it a go, if not to upskill, then atleast it will re-create your definitions of defence.

Short Inches Power as focused upon in Legit Internal Martial Arts is great for CQC . lways hs been - most ppl just dont have te Patience to develop such weapons .

because even though the technique may have favourable destructive results, other techniques are easier to learn. to want to master martial science is one thing, to want to get in, get out, walk away is another. it depends about on what you want out of training and the time frame you want it in.

While I understand what youre getting at , and this IS a BBing Website at the core , but many of us Ironheads can forget between Downing Protein Shakes that MOST of the world isnt blessed with our Natural Attributes .

Lets face it , The most Popular systems of Striking today are almost TOTALY Attribute-Based . Testing this is easy - take the TOP guys , move one up 4 weight classes and he gets Murdered by a guy at his same skill level . Because Sportive systems are always the most Popularised , this leads ppl to falsely believe that this MUST ALWAYS be the case . But the fact is that my GrandAunt isnt going to be using Muay Thai to any Success in defending herself in a Fight against any 20 year olds thug . He body just wont do it . Something like Real Taiji , Silat , or Bagua is actually useable by her , however .

Actually this is a False Presumption .

The same amount of time that it takes you to Touughen your external Frame is the same amount of Time that it takes you to gain your Internal Rythym and Co-Ordination . A friend oif mine that has been doing Eastern European MAs for YEARS joined our School about a year ago , and for much of the last 6-8 months due to some unfortunate Circumstances , I was unable to attend . Seeing him now , anew , as I have been able to return to Training - His Body Unity , Power and Harmony is AMAZING ! Now , this is a Small , Awkward guy ! Hes STIL KIND of Awkward when learning new things , and perhaps he always will be , but even his POSTURE is better , hes more Sure-Footed - his entire carrieage has TOTALY changed itself . This Idea that it takes 20 Years to learn CIMA is a Joke . 1-2 years and you should be able to Whup just about 80% of the ppl out there , just like any other Decent system . 3-5 years and your Body should be Changed totally . The problem is with the High Rate of McDojos , and that ppl are afraid to Test and/or Research a teacher before they sign on with them . Then they end up just doing Forms for 20 years and nothing else .

Hes also participated in Empty-Handed Sparring sessions (as recently as this sunday) with Boxers and Kickboxers of all stripes , and never has any Issues unless just THOUROUGHLY outsized (100+ lbs) . And he tends to fight ppl, TRYING to PROVE that CMA dont work .

the context was in CQC. the military dont have use for much else when the push comes to shove. i admire those willing to perfect a traditional art, whatever the style. just like you said, the older ladies can never get up to the skill or power levels of a trained fighter. so CQC is a good concept. not gods lightning, but vital strikes while allowing for you to be less than capable physically. i havent lost or disregarded my kempo or thai.

the thread was seeing if anyone here trained in it. i have and do. i know of many who have gone on to BJJ and the like. as they enjoy the stratergy and competiveness. be well rounded helps. but many get great at just one. the individual dictates the effectiveness of anything.
