Don't believe the steroetypes
1. alot of people stayed because it was the end of the month and were expecting gov't checks
2. People were truly that poor
3. Some people are that possessive about their domicile.

The looting was survival and opportunistic thinking then an actual reason for staying. Some looted grocery stores because they wanted cigarettes... C'mon do you really think people would risk their lives for a pack of smokes????

I have people near me who have houses right on the beach. Can't say I'll feel sorry for them if their houses end up in the ocean.
