60 pounds in 3-4 months, is it possible?

I'm on day 2 of the Atkins Induction Diet (2 weeks on 20 grams of carbs or less daily) I'm also employing the apple cider vinegar diet, eating lots of vegatables and meat and I'm also concentrating on plenty of exercise.

My goal is to lose 60 pounds in roughly 3 1/2 months and also build as muxh muscle as I can in that time frame. About 7 years ago I used to lift quite a bit and as a result I had a very lean and muscular build. Does anyone know if that will make a difference in losing weight now?

Not sure if this makes a difference, but despite the fact that I'm overweight I can still my ab muscles beneath all the flab. In fact my entire upperbody is still somewhat muscular. Does this mean I might lose weight quickly?

Thanks for any advice

3 1/2 months is about 15 weeks. 60lbs/15 weeks = 4lbs/week.

1lb of fat is 3500 kcals. 4x3500 = 14000 kcals.

14000 kcals/7 days/week = 2000kcals.

So you would have to eat at least 2000 calories under your daily caloric needs to burn that much, assuming you only burn fat calories, which is not likely. You always burn some combination of carbs/protein/fat, although in different proportions depending on your activity.

I would say this is doable under extreme cardio and calorie restriction, but it is also a recipe for drastic muscle loss. I would focus on maintaining muscle with moderate fat loss, and don't use the scale as your guide.

That's roughly 17-18lbs per month, a tall order. What is your height/weight/age? An estimate of your bodyfat% will help as well.

A little more info

I'm 29 years standing at 6'1 weighing in at 265. I'm not sure what my bodyfat is right now.

4 pounds does'nt sound extremely difficult to achieve, especially considering what I've just learned about ketosis. But I guess even if I lost 50 that would be a remarkable difference in my appearance.

I just finished a workout about 30 minutes ago. I did 20 minutes of cardio w/ my heartrate at about 130-150 and I also did a variety of upperbody weight machines.

This morning I worked out free weights (2x25 lb dumbells) and I targeted my shoulders and arms. I also walked up 20 flights of steps at my job.

This evening I'll finish off my day by doing pushups, situps and maybe 10 times up and down the steps in my home.

I know won't be able to do that kind of exercising everyday but I know for a fact that I can at least get in 20 minutes of cardio, situps and target different parts of my body with weights on a daily basis. Hopefully a regimen like that will drop the pounds.

I plan on shaping up for life, I'll never allow myself to get out shape the way I am right now again.

I think your goals might be set a little to high. Aim for maybe 2-3 pounds per week fat loss. Diet will be the key, Exercise helps but not as much as diet for a obese person, even 20 minutes on the bike at 130-150 bpm only works out at about 150-175 calories burned. So its a lot easier to just keep a good clean diet, you can probably cut 1000 calories a day that way, along with yiur added exercise maybe another 300-500 calories a day which could get you around 3 pounds a week loss, hard to keep muscle though, but when your dratiscally out of shape your body is pretty amazing so you should still gain muscle at the beginning, maybe later you could go with eca stack as long as your bloodpressure isn't too high

So go for it. You sound pretty motivated. If you keep doing what you're doing, it's possible. Depends on how much you want it, what you're willing to give up to get it, and how long your motivation lasts. If you can stick with the diet and excercise, even if you don't make your goal, you'll likely get real close. And you'll be happy with the results regardless.

These low carb diets are really interesting

I keep reading and hearing about people who lose large amounts of weight in a short period of time. And if what I'm hearing is correct this is fat loss not lean muscle tissue.

I just hope the same happens with me

On the atkins diet this is possible.... I was training a friend that was 285.
I put him on a no carb diet and in 3 months time he got down to 240...

thats 45 lbs... pretty damn close.. and he cheated here and there.
