Heavy weights risky?

I can remember seeing a thread on a forum where they were arguing if lifting heavy weights was bad or not. One guy was saying that he does nothing but heavy weights and he's been doing it for 20 years with no problems.
Another guy said that heavy weights cause them to get injured.
Is there a happy medium in between where you can actually lift heavy and still get benefits? What's your views on this?
 
if you do heavy weights with poor form then i guarantee you that you will become injured. our discs and soft tissues are not designed to pick up the kind of weights we do as dedicated lifters. i have 3 herniated discs and a torn shoulder as proof

stick to 4-5 reps even on heavy lifts and use proper form with spotters. that will keep you healthy longer

you want to be a gorilla and do 1 rep maxes to look cool then goodbye discs before you hit 40. i used to do 2 rep maxes and even that caused me to get hurt cause i was stubborn and didn't listen to this advice

if you want to grow you need to do heavy weights, it's simple

but you will need to eat too big time
