in the US planet fitness is very cheap per month because they know you won't go there often and a lot of people go months without even going
a typical franchise gym will charge an upfront fee plus 30-40 a month depending on where and how long you sign up. they do have outs in the contract in case you move but it's bullshit. i hate signing up for contracts would rather pay cash for a year and give them nothing.

I work out at home now. I have been building up a good gym over the past year. It depends on what gym you are talking about too. You can join planet fitness her for $11 per month or go to a regular franchise gym closer to $20-$25 per month.
