I tried to release my parakeet

Today I tried to release my parakeet to the wild. It was more of an experiment.
I tried to force it outdoors, but it didn't leave.
Then I put it's food tray on the open terrace. It followed, but just sat on the tray.
Then I forced it to leave the tray. It flew only a few feet away.
After about half an hour, it flew back in.
I was almost wishing that it would fly away. We had a bad start and it is scared of me touching it.
Stockholm syndrome? Love of free food?
It does follow me around. I had to forcefully stop it from sitting on my head.

Try that trick with your ex wife you want to give a second chance to. Only, close the glass door when she tries flying back in.

Take pictures.
